I was thinking the same thing, Kevin. That's close to Alan's age for sure.

Oh Kevin, sorry to hear that your pain is back and I know what you mean about the jaw pain, it can be worse than labor i know you don't know what that is like, but for me i would rather give birth. It is wierd how most all of us have jaw eppisodes i guess it's just another symptom of AS. I was dx with TMJ way back when all my other symptoms showed their ugly selves. I hope the accupuncture works for you, if it does please let me know. My pain mang. doc wants me to try, but only if i know it works as you know everything cost and this disease has already cost me to much. Take care kevin, exspecially your diabetes it such a shame you have to deal with chronic pain and diabetes. Is it type 2. What sucks is if it is type 2 you could probably benifit from some sort of exercise, but who can exercise when we are in pain all the time or just to darn exhausted sleep1

Take care of yourself and hope you start to feel better again

Hi Laurie & sue,
It was my first session of Acupuncture on Friday only had 4 needles to start the strange thing was it made my left shoulder hurt dont know if thats normal I will find out next week when she said she is going to use a lot more needles. As sue knows my Diabetes is type 2 and I do walk as much as I can the insulin should start working as soon as I get it up to a higher dose this will take a few weeks,
No I dont know what labour pains are like I dont need them as well I will take your word for it.

Sorry to hear the pain is back. I know you enjoyed that respite, though.

Keep us posted on the acupuncture. I never heard of them starting with only a few needles, then increasing...maybe it's like starting a new drug??

kevin,

didn't want to influence you before you tried it, but since you have tried it, i will say that i tried it in the fall. had it done by a very experienced doctor trained in acupuncture in korea, and he started with all the needles all over the body. while it felt very cathartic, and probably would have helped with my pain, i think for me at that point it was too much too soon, as my back was really bad then. i wonder if he had started slower or if i had started when i wasn't in so much pain, if i would have kept with it? the thing that concerned me the most is that a few of the needles induced some pretty intense muscle spasms; the spasms stopped once the needles were out, but it still concerned me none the less. wonder if that's why your should hurts, a similar experience?

but do continue to keep us informed, i think i'd like to try it again, so hearing some more good reviews would be helpful to me. maybe the starting out slowly like your doctor is doing is the way to go.

Hi sue.
Im getting mine from a sister who works in the pain department she seems to know what shes doing . She told me that the first session could cause problems thats why they only use a small amount of needles . It was interesting talking to her because she knows all about AS she used to work as a surgical sister doing the spine operations for AS and was saying about how many fail she advised me not to risk it unless Im having other problems like breathing or eating. I will let you know how its going Ive got to go every Friday for 6 weeks.
