I filled out that NASS questionairre that was linked in one of the other discussion areas (Helpful Hints, I think?) and received a response from them that they were going to recommend it to area clinicians. Anyway, today's post is that in the footer of the email was this:

Well done Kat - I have still to hear...! At least NASS are 'recommending' to physicians. That was the diet, yes?

Well, I sure as heck didn't know about the 'World AS Day' Never heard of it. And it aint in the French Spondy News either. Mebbe summat that NASS is a-keepin to dem dere selves.../'Keeping frightfully close to their chests'! (Brit-speak...<VBG>)

Hi Tink and Molly, actually the study request I made was the effect of TNF-s inhibitors on women's menstrual cycles. So many of us have noticed changes since starting on a biologic, and when I search it (with my meager skills) I can't find research specific to women. Since our reproductive organs are rife with TNF-a, it seems to me there might be an unthought-of impact.

I also wish someone would do a study of the use of biologics on people with longterm depression. People who have been depressed apparently have a huge amount of TNF-a in the brain. I don't recall where I read that, but it stuck with me because of the way my own lifelong depression lifted when I started Remicade. That, by the way, may also have been a result of my body not attacking itself all the time and the inflammation and pain levels going down, but there could be a connection.

It seems it may well be 'new', Molly - further detail (from the NASS website) is

"The first Saturday after the 1st of May each year has been designated World Anklyosing Spondylitis Day by the Ankylosing Spondylitis International Federation (ASIF). This provides the international AS community the opportunity to stand up and be heard."

I'm planning on taking part as this is very much in my neck of the woods, please let me know if any of you other AS-kickers are too!
