If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I have been on NSD for about 2 months and no dairy for 1 month. I have had fantastic results. The inflammation in my heel was almost gone and my SI pain a distant memory.
This week I ate broccoli and broccolini 3 days in a row. No reaction day 1, day 2 or day 3. I woke up on Thursday morning with the distinctive SI pain, the morning after day 3. Today it is Saturday morning. By evening I will have gone 3 days without the offending foods. Why isn't the flare going away?
Is it the GUAR GUM in my organic coconut cream? I changed brand last week, it seemed to test ok. However, on close inspection after 30 minutes the iodine has separated into a ring pattern. Are some of the rings black? I am not sure if my eyes are playing tricks on me. Is this possible? Can an additive form a separate dark iodine ring in the middle of an iodine blot.
Or should I just be patient and my flare will naturally subside?
I don't want to fast as I have already lost close to 8 kg or 14 pounds...on my 5 11 frame that puts me close to the pretty thin range.
Any ideas? Help?
Cheers
Keith

The organic coconut cream sounds very suspect to me. It could have such trace amounts of starch, that it took 3 or 4 days to build up and cause a flare, and now since you are continuing use, the flare will not end. Or even just the natural sugar in coconut could be too much sugar, it is for me. The only way to tell is to eliminate it and see if the flare ends.
FYI - I have given up ALL processed foods, learning the hard way like you. Many even contain starch if not listed on the ingredients, because the % is so small, they are not required to report.

And the golden rule is test, test, test.
I bought my usual brand of coconut cream and tested it alongside the new one. I dropped the iodine in and bingo! The iodine turned reddy brown. Hard to pick up in isolation but clear when compared with something else. I checked the with Carol Sinclair's book and reddy brown is evidence of starch. Thank you yet again Carol.
Test, test and test.
PS I just cant understand how people in the US don't have free medical care. If I was American I would take to the streets and demand that my children are protected from illness without me mortgaging away the house. Sorry, but I have been following the debate and I am flabbergasted that two wars are readily funded, Wall Street is bailed out yet free medical care is considered too expensive. Unbelievable. Sorry, wrong forum I know but all of my cousins are American. It makes me angry.

Thanks Jeanne. I am not as brave as you to give up everything: just most things!
I will stick with the old coconut cream because i had been using it for weeks without any reaction. I thought it was cooked broccoli causing the flare. Hopefully I can go back to that next week. I drop it in boiled water for 60 seconds (is that what we call blanching?)
A quick question Jeanne. Sauerkraut turn black with iodine. However, because it is fermented it can be easily digested/ Is that correct. So even though it appears to contain starch it is able to pass through the gut without any side effects...unless of cause there is an allergy to cabbage type plants. Does this sound accurate. Similarly, alfalfa tests black but due to its enzyme content it is easily digestible...is this correct?
Thanks again.
Keith

It is my experience that not all sauerkraut turns dark with iodone, but it certainly can... cabbage CAN be starchy and it is important to test each new batch (I discovered this before I realized that I can not tolerate it)
Good luck. Stacey
