Grrr... there's something wrong with this picture, Megan. I just don't buy this idea that, when the province runs out of money, no one can get anything done! If that was true, the doctors, including yours, would be having a fit and it would be all over the newspapers. I'm very suspicious of this guy - something doesn't smell right here - pretty fishy if you ask me. My suggestion is that you contact the media and see if they will do some kind of investigative piece... or even fifth estate.

I also have never heard of this kind of thing ever happening! Something must be REALLY wrong with the provincial gov't there?

I'm sorry you had to go through any of this.

Thanks guys. It isn't right that I'm going off about it on a public forum and being all drama queeny about it - just needed a vent. Wendy, you're right, something is off about it all. I'll sleep on it and make some calls tomorrow.

Aarghhhhhhhhhhhhhh.............there was a joke inthere, I knew it wouldbe too subtle...I told it once to Mig, she just sort of stood there with a blank look and a mouth that opened and closed with no sound coming out...............you see is all to do with public buildings like you know, prisons, sub standard!!!!ahh well.................and I guage that my normal silly approach is perhaps not too appropriate tothis thread........I shall skulk off and find a joke.........aghaaaa

Megan,

This is just so crazy..... What happens to people turning up in the ER...? If you're acutely ill will you still get treatment? Or is it just 'non-acute' stuff that is being put on hold? People with serious illnesses, who are only going to get more complications by things being put on hold and therefore requiring more expensive long-term treatments.... Head and brick wall. eek2

I hope you can get that test run soon, and that you don't get to another acute episode... Would having your mum test positive for it hold any weight in trying to get in to see someone or getting treatment? What harm is there in suggesting places in the US to you? I can't imagine what is going through your docs head. If you went and tested negative for it and they couldn't treat you, isn't that your problem not his...? Can he not suggest any private labs...? Would there be any harm in trying any of the appropriate meds and seeing what that does for your symptoms...? And did he really wait a month to tell you that he couldn't do anything for you for the next 2 months...? eek

*hugs* hugss hugss hugss hugss hugss

Meggie, you are not being all 'drama queenie' about it. Not in the slightest. I am appalled that this should happen, especially here in Canada. Sadly (and please don't take this the wrong way), I am not surprised that if it were to happen in Canada, it is in Alberta. Some of the decisions made there politically the last few years have been questionable (ie. cancelling the personal healthcare levy).

I wish you could come here, but since you have a family GP in BC, head there. OK? Don't futz around with this. You need a confirmed dx so you can get some treatment and start feeling better. As for your current doctor? I have a few choice words for him. There is definitely something not above board going on. IMNSHO, anyway.

hugss

Warm hugs,

Kat

Unbelievable Megan, just unbelievable.
Granted, when we are not seriously unwell and looking for answers our health care systems comes off all sparkly and fabulous. But I hear of so many folks like yourself who are so seriously unwell, with no answers to help toward treatment who can't get anywhere because of our system that I am dumbfounded.
If the good thoughts and prayers of everyone here can be of any help, hopefully you'll soon have some sort of light at the end of the tunnel.
I really do wish you the best.

Oh my!! Hopefully you can come down to the States and get some answers. Tell the Canadian government that since they weren't able to provide you with all the health care that you need you won't be paying all of your taxes then. They will have to do without as well. Send them 75% of what they ask for. Wouldn't it be nice if we could do that. It's funny. We pay 18.5 cents in federal tax per gallon of gasoline here for roads and bridges yet our roads and bridges are falling apart. That isn't even counting what state and local governments spend on transportation infrastructure. What are they doing with the money? Eating it??? It may be time to bring back the absolute monarchy. Where is Louis XIV when you need him? Just kidding! Sort of!

Best of luck!!

Craig
