If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Has anyone else gotten prescription lidocaine patches to apply to flare-up points?! WHERE HAVE THESE THINGS BEEN MY WHOLE LIFE? I read a reference somewhere online so I asked my 1st rheumy about them after she made her lightning-fast diagnosis of me being spondy. Her reaction? "They are too expensive to use all the time - I'll give you a few samples but if you want more ask your regular doctor to write you a script." ? What? Too expensive for ... my insurance to pay for? Regardless, the kind E.R. doc I saw last week wrote me a script for a WHOLE BOX of them. Take the plastic off the back and slap it on what ails you. It dulls the pain on my neck down from a 9 to say a 4.5, which I will take any day. Does anyone else have these? Why the heck are they not used more?? Non-narcotic, non-habit forming . . . seems like an excellent use of them. http://www.answers.com/topic/lidocaine-patch Yay for lidocaine patches! Or am I missing something?

thanks for sharing. no doc has recommended them, but i'm going to bring up the idea of patches at the next rheumy appointment since they do seem like a viable option.

I have some samples that I've never used - there have been some deaths and class action lawsuits on some of those pain patches, and I knew someone personally that is the days before his death from unrelated causes used some with really bad results - they had to rush him to the ER and he didn't know where he was or what was going on.

Was it a lidocaine patch or a fentanyl patch? I can't understand how lidocaine could cause death, unless someone put on more than directecd (max of 3) or ingested the lidocaine somehow ... but maybe I'm missing something.

We have both used Lidocaine patches for several years. I don't use them often because of a sensitivity to Lidocaine. If I am in lots of pain, I will use one for a while. Don't use more than 3 at a time 12 hours on and 12 hours off.
Supposedly from our rheumy, the Lidocaine isn't absorbed much unless you are extremely sensitive to it. I have cut them to fit around my elbow and made them work however we need them. One on the lower back does help but they only help for just the area they are put on.
I am glad you found them and they are helping you. We get them through our mail order prescription pharmacy 3 months at a time and they aren't an expensive class of drug (being on Medicare anyway).
Blessings. Possi

I used them to tone down muscle spasm pain in my mid-back, I normally would cut them in half to make the pack last longer. I haven't used them in awhile because I started to have some type of reaction, light headed and shaky if I wore them too long. I still think they are fine if used judiciously but I prefer to use ice and heat more often, the less chemicals in the body the better.

I think the patch that they are referring to is the Fentanyl Patch (its what I use) if you get too much or you dont use them right they can cause you to stop breathing but I have never heard that about lidocaine patches.
Fentanyl though is really dangerous stuff if you dont know what you are doing. I have a 75mcg one on right now to help keep my pain under control.

I'm using a 50 mcg Fentanyl patch at the moment - I change it every three days. I'm still nervous about them but I follow all the rules very carefully so I'm not anticipating a problem now I've been on them for nearly three weeks.

I have heard that salonpas patches are also good to put on your joints.
