How does LDN work if I am on Humira? Is it instead of or as well or only if Biologicals don't work for you. Only just hearing about LDN since I joined KA forum. Loving the network and support and all the info. So good to hear from people who get where I am at.

Welcome Moonshine,
This IS a great forum. Seriously I think I would be crazy by now without all the good people here and their experiences!! I haven't taken LDN, but I have read a lot about it on www.ldners.org also on youtube there is a video by Joseph Wouk. He took LDN for MS, but it seems to be working on all types of auto immune problems. There are also a couple of people here who take it and love it.

Good Luck,
Donette

Welcome to KickAS Moonshine.

Here's another resource for you: Low Dose Naltrexone

Some folks use it as a standalone med with maybe some minimum usage of other medications like something for pain. I'm not sure if anyone uses it along with biologics.

Kind Regards,
Jay

Hi there Moonshine - Welcome to KA. Lots of info in many posts here on the forum. The two links posted by Donette and jay will give you a raft of info - there is also a forum linked to the LDN webpages (more good info and of course the forum group/s).

For myself, I have been on LDN for just over two years. I don't take much else except for occasional breakthrough pain levels - but very little. Have come through two major flares which pretty much incapacitated me, but, the flares were very short lived (especially when compared with the first flares I experienced which lasted, one, way over a year and the other for a good part of one year.) So, for me, LDN works good.

My rheumy was quite comfortable with my taking it. At best she conceded: 'if it works use it, though it 'might' be a palcebo effect.' She herself could not script me for LDN - which I obtain in script from my private (UK)doctor - she being NHS and bound by various rules and regs dealing with drugs/medications 'passed' for certain conditions etc etc.

Your question re taking with the biologics, believe you will find this question answered elsewhere in this forum in a post of earlier today.

Hi Georgina;
I'm the LDN trailblazer for KickAS - I was the first, maybe the first ASer to ever take it. It works WONDERFULLY for me.
I don't know of anyone taking it at the same time as a biologic - I think it's an "Instead". Since LDN actually enhances your immune system and biologics are immunosuppressants, it seems that they'd fight each other. I started it after Remicade and instead of Enbrel - didn't want to give myself shots if I didn't have to (so happy I chose this!)

Also, LDN works on cancer. PM me if you'd like more info.

The best thing about LDN is the very few side effects, which you can't say for the biologics.
I'm off to bed now - welcome to KickAS!
*hug*

Hi Bridget,
Thank you for your answer and support. I have been overwhelmed with the wonderful support, friendship and welcome I have recieved from KA. How do you find the LDN, any flare ups or other probs? My wonderful partner has to give me the Humira needles every fortnight. Hurts big time. He hates doing it but he understands the value of the injection.
Georgina

ps you have a gorgeous baby.

Hi Bridget,

I read in your other posts that you are in a lot of pain and using prednisone. Is LDN not helping you now.... or have you outgrown its utility.

Bridge is on prednisone for a different infection that got out of control after having her baby. Her AS pain is not flared at all.
