Well
I finally did it.. after much soul searching and thinking about it..
I got the disability thing that hangs over the rear view mirror for my car today..
Now I just have to make myself use it............

Take care

Well done! Not a nice thing to have to admit to, but you've obviously come to terms with your limitations with this condition. I have to admit I am terrified of getting to that stage (I'm in the early stages of this condition), but hope I have the same attitude you do when the time comes. Sometimes you just have to give in and go with the flow:-)

All the best, and have a great Christmas!

Emma.

I was just talking to my wife about this very thing yesterday. I'm going to look into what is needed up here in Canada. I sure could use a parking spot that isn't a mile and a half away from the mall. Shopping with my wife was bad when I was healthy, now it's murder but with my trusty cane and a decent place to park, I think I can handle it better.

Merry Christmas everyone...shhhh, my girls are already napping - I guess the sugar rush has just worn off. lol

Valerie, my wife has been after me to get one for 20 yrs., but I am still holding out. I was on a cane for a couple of yrs, and then crutches for 2 1/2 months after hip replacement and I walk better now, so I am going to wait awhile.

That was the hardest thing I ever did (until I applied for disability). Admitting to needing that when I was in my 30's was just unbelievable to me.

My dr. insisted saying that I needed to conserve my energy for shopping and not use it up walking through the parking lot to get to the store or mall. He was right. Just one of the early acceptance things. Now I am so thankful I have it and I don't use it on good days. I choose when I think I need to use it and that is most days but there are those very good days when I pass it up and walk. I try to use it responsibly.

I am glad you got it.

Blessings.

Hi Emma
I know how you feel.. It took me forever to admit that I have limitations.. some days I still won't ask for help doing things when I really should. You will know when the time comes to admit the limitations .

Take care

Hello there
I am not sure which prov. you live in . I just went to the ns website downloaded the form droped it off and the Dr and then went to the DMV with it. Couple of min later I had the tag..
That was the easy part. Now I have to make myself use it and the way that i am feeling lately I will do that ..
I even started using my cane off and on..
I really think you should get the tag even if you don't use it all the time..

Take care
Valerie

Hi Bradford
None of my doctors mentioned the tag. I decided on my own one day after having to park at the end of the lot and hobbling to go into the store.. and there they were empty parking spaces nice and close but I could not use them.
I know there are days when I feel fine but then I take a step and almost fall because my knee gives out.. I am going to bite the bullet and make an appointment with my ortho surgeon and get a shot in it to see if that will help any esp since I am having problems doing the stairs now.

Take care
Valerie

I thought that I was all set after my hip replacements. but now the knees are shot and my ankles are bothering me so I gave in .. I know that I won't have to use it all the time but I have it now in case I do need it..

Take care
Valerie
