If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Do or don't - I see in the starch content list it has none, which is surprising. So is it a go or a no? This one is a close tie for me on my favorite food and drink list with any kind of cheese!!!! Thanks for the advice!

Hey, Chris:
Beer is *generally* safe on NSD. There is a problem with some beers due to gluten content, for those who have celiac or similar and beer can damage the tract, but clear, filtered beers are safe for most people with AS to the extent that not much is taken because the alcohol content can also retard the healing process.
One beer in particular--Tuskers (available in Africa)--affected one of our members because it has plenty of added starch; he was on safari then.
Regards, John

Thank god I could still drink a beer! I would skip the wheat beers though. Even though amounts might be trace, they could add up if you have a lot. I wouldn't want to risk it.
I do have to go in moderation, with my Candida. Something about the yeast, the fungus likes. But I can seem to handle a pint or two without any return of symptoms.

What beers are not made from wheat just so I know. Also, the candida infection - can you elaborate a little on the symptoms so I know that I don't have similar problems. Thanks!

Drank 3 bud lights tonight - don't know how I'll feel in the morning but I've been hurting anyway. I think I know the culprit - I thought that sunflower seeds were okay until I looked at the starch content list, and they are loaded with it! So that could be why I haven't seen much improvement, as I've been putting them in my salads and just eating them raw for a week and a half!

Hiya,
My best advice to you would be to get yourself a bottle of iodine (not the colourless one) from your local pharmacy. That way you can test your food for starch.
Mostly the starch content list is OK but sometimes some things wont match up.
Esp cooked vegies can be dodgy so testing is always helpful. Carol Sinclair's book The IBS Low Starch Diet is really good when you're just starting out. Really spells it all out exactly what you can and can't eat etc.
Good Luck!
Chelsea

It is listed, under - alcoholic beverages - beers. Unfortunately when I typed the list I didn't use bold script for headings. Perhaps I should do that some time as it will make it easier to use.

There are very few beers that are wheat/gluten free unfortunately. One of our coeliac members will drink Sapporo out of Japan if he's in the mood for a lager type beer. However, it still contains glutens, so he doesn't do it often. Also, Gunness out of Kenya is gluten free. And there's a beer sold in Canada called La Messagere that is gluten free. When I was taken off wheat by my naturopath, I found that beer did set my thoracics to kicking. I switched to cider: Magners (Irish), Gaymers, Sir Perry's (a pear cider), Strongbow, Blackthorn. I can still order a pint in the pub, and not feel the nasty after effects. Here's a link to the Gluten Free Beer Festival. Just a thought. Hugs,
Kat
