If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi! I want to eat pineapple every day. But I've been having inconsistent luck! Some are not ripe, some are. I've got wonderful produce markets around here, too. So I'm wondering if I'd have better luck with canned. Any one have any recommendations? Thanks! Jan

Hi, I eat canned pineapple packed in juice and drink canned pineapple juice (Dole) without issues. Just test it. Enjoy!

In general, I prefer the flavor and texture of fresh. But I will get some for my earthquake kit, which so far has nothing but tuna and water. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the starch content of fresh or canned pineapple, but one major difference between the two is that fresh pineapple has bromelain, which is an anti inflammatory. The bromelain is destroyed in the canning process and so would not be in the canned pineapple. For this reason, fresh pineapple is preferable if you can find non-starchy ones.

Hi Karen, the bromelain is main reason I want to eat pineapple, for those wonderful anti-inflammatory properties. Thanks to you I won't buy the canned and will stick with fresh, keeping on trying to find consistently ripe ones. Thanks to all who posted with your helpful ideas and advice! Jan

Something to bear in mind with pineapple too is that they do not ripen further once they are picked and it is not easy to tell exactly when a pineapple is best for picking. Finding a good pineapple is a bit hit and miss here in NZ as all of them are imported, but I have discovered fresh pineapples seem to be really helping my IBS (bromelain has anti-diarrhoea properties as well as anti-inflammatory) so I eat some every day and always try to buy the Tropical Gold variety as they seem to be the best. Cheers, Jo.

What about dehydrated pineapple?
I am not currently on the NSD, so I'm interested in the bromelain amount and not starch.

I didn't know about the anti-inflammatory properties. Thanks! I wonder if bromelain supplements would do the same thing?

Bromelain denatures at approximately 140 F (60C). Fruits are generally dehydrated at the same temperature. As an educated guess, I'd say that most of the bromelain in pineapple is denatured in the process of dehydration.

I love fresh pineapple, but have never eaten canned. I sprinkle raw sugar on it and put it in the fridge for a few hours, then put toothpicks in the peices and have it on the counter when my kids come in from school. Nice healthy snack!
