I am so happy to read that you've found such useful pain relief with this. It sounds like an effective and safe option to try and I'm going to try to remember this idea and keep it in my back pocket if the need should arise for an adjunct.

Pretty impressive if allowing you to cut down on Enbrel.

I think there are only a few brands...look for the highest % for more heat. Available at most stores. Here's the one I've been using but also found 0.15% :

i can vouch for its potency! that's the one i used that burned so badly......but the number of people that respond the way that i did is small i believe, just test a small area first, as i should have done.

Thought I would post a 1 year update. I still use capsaicin twice/day on the SI's. It continues to make a difference because I notice when I forget to use it. My SI's are still painful but this is a low cost alternative that has been helping. I've since discovered that the easiest way to use it is the roll on however it seems the only place I can now find this is Walgreens pharmacy packaged under their own name. I bought a whole bunch in case they discontinue this item. It is available also in cream and gel however the roll on doesn't require use of gloves. Also, the Walgreen brand is 0.15% which is the highest % I've been able to find & I need the highest strength. Also, as the literature states, it takes a while to work and you have to use it consistently. And the initial burning and redness went away completely. I've read a couple articles on experiments that have been done with injecting capsaicin in much higher concentrations. I would volunteer for that but I guess because this isn't approved, can't find anyone who administers injections.

Here's the one I use. If anyone knows a source for a higher concentration please let this chile lover know. Bring on the heat!

I have a client (I'm a PT) who swears by this stuff!

Every time he has an injury, he comes to see me with his trusty pump pack of "Hot Stuff", which I believe he buys on the 'net somewhere...

All I know is that I have to glove up when I work on him after I've sprayed it on - it makes him go bright bright red,and consequently very warm to touch.

Even after I've taken the gloves off, I have to be very careful to wash my hands and arms thoroughly to make sure there are no traces left....experience has shown me how many times we inadvertently touch our faces!!!

So the investigator/detective in me is taking over and I'm thinking how/why does this work?? Could it be that capsaicin is an "anti-klebs" substance?? Very interesting. And thank you for the info!!!! I would sign up for the chili pepper injections too!! Snowshoe, do you happen to love to eat chili's too?? Lots of them?? I wonder if over the long run they could kill off klebs in the gut??

Actually, it desensitizes the nerves. So not sure if/how it might affect klebs in the gut but I'm willing to try that too...maybe make a big pot of chili soup and ingest daily? There are a couple forms of injectable capsaicin under development with a number of clinical trials reporting positive and long lasting results (4 months). So it could be a safer alternative to steroid injections and/or other meds. I will try to convince my pain dr to start a trial specifically for SI injections so I can sign up He was interested that I'm using it on the SI's with some benefit but an injection would be better Here's more info:

Hadn't seen this thread before, but I can echo Sue's experience. As soon as I put it on my feet, the burning started. I washed it off immediately (futile effort) and washed it at least 5 times a day and it STILL burned for 4 days. Never liked the taste of peppers and seem very sensitive to the burning aspect in my mouth. No swelling, though. Not sure it's an allergy, but I'll avoid it like the plague for the rest of my life. Gave my tube to a friend who loves it.

Right on man I Dose the lower back on a regular basis with Christophers cayenne heat ointment. I always rub it on the bottom of my feet at night and the put some socks on. Just rubbed a dose on tonight.
