If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hey - just wanted to say that l-arginine can cause existing cold sore (or other herpes) virus to replicate and get out of control. I have a friend who started eating lots of almonds (one source of this amino acid) and got, like, a million horrible cold sores. So, if you are prone to cold sores, you might want to avoid this. It's listed in the literature, so you can find this information easily.
It's always a good idea to thoroughly investigate "natural" remedies, because, while they often can be very helpful and are sometimes less expensive, they are still powerful chemicals that act on the body in many ways that you might not know about. Since they aren't regulated, the side effects do not have to be listed. So, treat them like the powerful drugs they are and protect yourself appropriately.

Yes - And I did suggest to check out everythng, not to take anything without first checking it all out, and that includes drugs. BTW, L'Arginie is not a 'powerful drug'. It is a natural occuring amino acid (perhaps your friend was allergic to summat else in the almonds? Know that I cannot eat almonds, and I'm not allergic to nuts.) Almonds make me feel v. sick, not cold sores, never had one, TG.
The reactions to those BP drugs are not funny, and strongly suggest checking out the side effects of them, then check out the L'Argine. (Have many friends on the AAKG/J - working a treat for em, from lowering BP to helping control inflammation.) Must say it is my own life saver.
Of interest, the pharma Co. making Ibuprofen is now producing an Ibuprofen containing L'argine. Using it to good efficacy.
Also suggest that you purchase the book I mentioned: The Arginine Solution. Facinating read.

Oh, and I am allergic to almonds. Sadly. Which means, for me, almonds are also a powerful drug!
If you google L-arginine and herpes, you will get tons of hits that show the link between nuts and cold sores, specifying that it's l-arginine that causes it.
I was not trying to discount your well-thought out advice, Molly. No offense meant! Many people, including me in the past, think of natural supplements as benign and view pharmaceuticals as bad. And this is SO not the case. They are ALL powerful drugs. Not to go all dictionary on you, but drugs are things that are used to treat disease, and that includes all chemicals put into the body for the purpose of making one feel better. That includes herbs, supplements, and amino acids as well as the Western pharmaceutical variety.
People need to be careful about what they put into their bodies, anything they put into their bodies. I'm not saying pharmaceuticals are benign, either, but they have, at least, had to go through many phases of clinical trials before they can go on the market. Oh, I'm just opening myself up for a flame war here! Seriously, I don't mean to say that pharmaceuticals are perfectly safe because they've been tested. We all know that's not the case.

Thanks Molly, you know he put me on the fossomax last time and I remember thinking that I didn't want to take a drug that was definitely going to tear my GI tract up worse than it already is...I took it for 3 weeks and quit after I started getting attacks of dysphagia, I had gotten my GI healed pretty well and had no dysphagis for about 7 months and I could tell after just 3 weeeks it was torn up again asnd dysphagia is horrible...you go to swallow a bite and it gets hung up in your throught because of esphogial spasms...and my attacks have lasted as long as 4 hours. I also thought about alternatives when after having to pay over $650 for my meds and after taking them for only 2 days, my pain levels have doubled! So, thank you, thank you...I'm going to have to change my whole routine until I find something that works and I'm going to need help with that, so thank you Molly....

Def. no flaming - not acceptable 'smile'. but L'Arginine is not a 'powerful drug'. It aint even a 'drug'. It can be buffered 'into' a drug, but of itself it is not a drug. OK, now everyone who takes L'Argine is not going to errupt with cold sores, same as not everyone who takes any 'drug' is going to spring any or all of the listed side effects!
Let's look at some of the side effects in the list that Michelle posted: Lipitor LIPITOR has a proven safety profile. LIPITOR Side Effects With more than 15 years of research, LIPITOR has been studied in more than 400 ongoing and completed studies involving over 80,000 patients.1 It is generally well tolerated. LIPITOR can be taken at any time of day with or without food. Side effects are usually mild and may go away.
Before You Start LIPITOR Always talk to your doctor before starting or changing treatment. Ask your doctor what to expect when taking LIPITOR. Before starting LIPITOR, tell your doctor:
About all medicines you take, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements If you have muscle aches or weakness If you drink more than 2 glasses of alcohol daily If you have diabetes or kidney problems If you have a thyroid problem Common Side Effects Headache Constipation Diarrhea Gas Upset stomach and stomach pain Rash Muscle and joint pain Serious Side Effects LIPITOR can cause serious side effects. These side effects have happened only to a small number of people. Your doctor can monitor you for them. These side effects usually go away if your dose is lowered or LIPITOR is stopped. These serious side effects include:
Muscle problems. LIPITOR can cause serious muscle problems that can lead to kidney problems, including kidney failure. You have a higher chance for muscle problems if you are taking certain other medicines with LIPITOR. Liver problems. LIPITOR can cause liver problems. Your doctor may do blood tests to check your liver before you start taking LIPITOR, and while you take it. Call your doctor right away if you: Have muscle problems like weakness, tenderness, or pain that happen without a good reason, especially if you also have a fever or feel more tired than usual Have nausea and vomiting Pass brown or dark-colored urine Feel more tired than usual Notice the skin and whites of your eyes become yellow Have stomach pain Who Should NOT Take LIPITOR Women who are pregnant or think they may be pregnant, or may become pregnant. LIPITOR may harm your unborn baby. If you get pregnant, stop taking LIPITOR and call your doctor right away Women who are breastfeeding. LIPITOR can pass into your breast milk and may harm your baby People with liver problems People allergic to LIPITOR or any of its ingredients Reference:

I've never had a cold sore either. They look awful! I apologize if I made your post about an argument between allopathic and naturopathic medicine. SO not my intention. Good luck in getting your numbers back to where you want them!

Molly,
Thanks for your thoughtful posts. I just wanted to tell people that supplements are not always entirely benign and should not be taken without thinking of them as the powerful "substances" they are.

Hey lass, that's fine. And yep, supplements 'can' indeed be powerful 'substances' - and often times most efficacious substances. But, *Always check 'everything' out. Research for oneself. The internet is a powerful tool.
