I was dx'd with pleurisy last summer. It's usually in my chest. I usually have a hard time breathing and my sternum hurts really bad. Before I knew what it was, I thought I was having heart attack. My wife drove me to the hospital and they did several tests, including a stress test to determine my heart was ok. They the doc came up with pleurisy. I was treated with Prednisone for a bit and it got much better. Usually you can receive some relief with motrin, but if you have any questions, best not to gamble and get into see your doc again.

I have had Pleurisy a few years back. I am pretty sure that Lady Bug has had it also.

It does suck. I feel for you.

Lisa,

Wow I have not heard of pleurisy since my grandmother was diagnosed with it. Back then it was called side pleurisy. I do know AS can cause similar symptoms in the ribs. Some deep breathing exercises may help when you can work them in between the pains. I hope you are making a list to take to the doctor with you so you don't remember something you forgot to tell him after your appointment.

I always recommend keeping a daily journal on the pains a few sentences long, then use a 1 thru 10 scale to describe your pain for the day with ten being the worse pain you have ever felt. When you go to the doctor take the journal with you so he can review it before asking a bunch of questions. My problem was always having something to say and forgetting to say it after they started their questions, but with a journal it is already in there.

No families take so little medicine as those of doctors, except those of apothecaries.

Thanks, the journal idea would be great. I forget alot and then remember later, all the time.(if that made any scense)LOL! I have such a high tolerance for pain. I know when I am hurting this bad and can barely handle it, that is is that bad! Lisa

When I got diagnosed with it before, They put me on a steroid and pain medication. I think Perc, not sure. I need to lay down, but that hurts. Guess i just have to deal with it. WAA WAA! Sorry about all the complaining. Guess i am just venting. Good to have someone to vent to. Thanks. I may not be making any scence because I am hurting so bad. I was in Florida a few weeks ago and my back felt pretty good. I have been having alot of pain in my shoulders and arms. Hard to lift arms at times. Did being in Florida have anything to due with the pain being milder?

Hi,

I've been diagnosed with Pleurisy quite a few times. I believe now that all of those times were not actually pleurisy but that some were the AS. The times that the doc couldn't hear it in my chest, but the symptoms were the same. It is very painful as is the costo with AS. They both hurt to breathe, sneeze, cough, etc. Usually they would put me on Prednisone and that helped. Which would have helped either dx. My longest bout with the costo was about 8 months. I hope you feel better and they don't make you go through any of those pulmonary embolism tests. I went through my share of them too when they thought it was pleurisy, but weren't sure. Hope you feel better

TAke care, Wanda
