If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Does anyone know if this is good, bad or neutral in regards to AS? THe reason I ask is that I am a homebrewer and there is always natural sediment ( yeast ) at the bottom of every bottle.
Cheers

Thanks for the response Dotyisle, I initially thought the same thing, however you do have benificial bacteria and harmful bacteria. I thought perhaps it could be the same, after all Brewers yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) is not the same as yeast like Candida albicans, which some of the posters in the link you gave also mentioned. I was wondering if some yeast could be benificial to the GI Tract.

I've been wondering about this. I've been fermenting my own kombucha and I love the stuff. However, the kombucha is fermented by a symbiotic combination of bacteria and yeast, so I've wondered if it really is good for me. I started antibiotics yesterday, so I'm even more concerned about the yeast in the kombucha. If anyone has any thoughts on this, I'd love to hear them. Here is some information about the yeast species in kombucha. Whether the yeasts include Candida depends on the source; http://www.cababstractsplus.org/google/abstract.asp?AcNo=20043146272http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8559192Karen

Im going to post at the homebrewers forum to see what some of the yeast experts have to say, but seeing as there are 1 million homebrewers in the USA it can't be that harmfull. The best thing I have found are these links ( scroll down ) talks of it being benificial in treating certain stomach ailments. http://www.conua.com/levure+de+biere?language=enhttp://www.diagnose-me.com/treat/T372380.html

I would agree that feeding the good bacteria is a good thing... however, in doing so it would also feed the Klebsiella and if you have the degree of sensitivity that I do, I would imagine you would feel the aches and pains.
My thoughts are that you want to encourage the good and do diminish the Klebs... so in my view, probiotics are the best option.

Thanks Tim, Its actually my wife that has AS and not myself. And she is doing really well on the NSD. But she has given up enough, and beer doesnt seem to cause her any flare-ups.
Cheers

Hi Karen
Concerning Kombucha: About the same time that I started LSD three years ago I took up an interest in all kinds of fermentation. In the beginning I made my own kombucha for some months, but eventually it became very clear that Kombucha affected me just like someone here on kickas pointed out to me: it was stimulating my immune system too much and made my Crohn as AS much worse. I was sad to stop making kombucha since it is so delicious, but there was no alternative for me. I don't know how it differs from person to person, but it is a nono for me, just like vinegar and other products of aceto bacteria. About other fermentations: sauerkraut is borderline, good for the guts but sometimes AS producing, kefir is 100% safe and I drink heaps every day. Brewers yeast is pure poison for me.

Andreas, Thanks for the input on kombucha. Like you, I had hoped that the beneficial bacteria in the kombucha would help me. For now, I've given it up, though I'm mainintaining the fermentation for the rest of the family. I might experiment with it more later, after I get these antibiotics figured out.
