Hi there...
I've had AS for quite some time. I had my first at 26 then 6 1/2 yrs later my 2nd after 3 miscarriages . Then I went on to have one more son. So I have 3 now. Have both of you all gone for full checkups? There's plenty of folks here with AS and family. Best of luck and good wishes !! Buggy

Hi Kim,

There have been many ladies here with AS who have had children after being diagnosed. If your husband is the one with AS there is no reason related to AS I know of that would cause infertility. My wife had two kids after my back surgeries and AS diagnosis. In fact after the surgeries my docotrs told me to make love as often as I could handle it to help build the muscles in my low back. My wife of course told me I was crazy so she went to my following up visit with me and I asked the doctor to tell her what he told me. So when he told his orders upon my release from the hospital was not to hold my urine and go to the bathroom often, Then he told her one of the other orders was to have as much sex as possible. She told him he was crazy too, but after that it did not take much convincing. A few years after the daughter and son was born I went and had the big V, but even with that I still try to follow the same doctors orders because it helps keep my hips and lower back limber.

It could be just your timing is off. I have had friends who got married and had a baby or was pregnant by the end of the first year. I have had other friends who have tried for as many as five years before conceiving. If you do not have any luck soon I would talk with a doctor and see what he/she might have to say.

Great suspicion is that from the male part AS affected the ability for me. My wife tried for a while to get pregnant. No luck. Tests showed I was the problem.

Not a lot of evidence of what the cause was but the morphology (shape)of my swmimers was not good. I had taken LOTS of NSAID's as a very young adolescent because my AS was severe as a young teen. Doc thought this a likely culprit.

Didn't matter what the cause was the result was a wife willing to go through IVF and three spectacular little girls born about six years ago.

Best wishes to you. Keep trying and use whatever good medicine has to offer.

Well it was not so funny at the time because for once I was going to follow the doctor's orders to the tee and hit a brick wall until after she talked to the doctor herself, she gave in a bit but not to the extend of as much as possible.

But on the serious side I have had three or four neurosurgeons and neurologist tell me to have as much sex as I could to help build the muscle strenght up and keep you flexible. I'm not one to say no or I have a headache. It keeps you more flexible and decreases the pain some also. I guess it stretches the tendons and muscles instead of them tightening up causing more pain.

Steve it sounds like you got stuck in a bad spot, You are the first person I have heard the AS or meds could have caused that. I know some meds cause ED but nothing like you described. Either way you have three little angles floating around with their dad wrapped around their fingers. I'm sure you two have them spoiled to no ends. You may need to build an addition onto the house or a building outside when they are all going through the teen years. I told my kids I was going to build me a room outside with one window and one door with locks on both when they started those teen years.
