I had the same problem about 3 years ago. I would get growths on the bone that would come and go on the fingers. I forget what you call them. My right arm was a few inches larger than my left. I would get the same kind of pain. In fact most days all I could do was hold my arm and rock back and forth in pain. Could not work. They found my tendons in my arm and fingers were inflamed from inflammation in the connecting tissue between the bone and the tendons. The main nerve running from my hand to my upper shoulder into my spine was also inflamed due to the pressure from all the swelling and inflammation. The inflammation was causing tendanitis. At the time they made wrists braces for me and I went on Sulfasalzine and anti-inflammatory drugs. Today I'm diagnosed with AS and RA.

The shots would help me too a little but only for a short time.

Hope this helps and hope he's feeling better soon. The pain can be unberable.

Just to add it can be Carpal Tunnel but in my case the same medical condition was created by my arthritis. one way they will know the difference is in the long run the problem will not go away with decreased use or braces.

Tim

Actually, Brian thinks it may be carpal tunnel syndrome. He's been taking 3 Celebrex a day and Pennsaiding the hell out of it for ages now just to get through the day. He has a wrist brace (I should remind him about that).

Thanks,

Three Celebrex a day is too many. He should not be going above 400 mg. One of the reasons that Celebrex and Vioxx can cause heart attack is when they are taken at higher doses.

Hi

Sounds like Carpel Tunnel to me too. Lots of colleagues, and one of my sisters have it, and suffer terribly with pain and weakness, poor grip etc. NSAIDS may help the inflammation, but rest is needed too.( Incidently, those that have had surgery have no problems now)

You know Kat....if ya wanna go, sometimes it has to be alone. That was the conclusion I came to. I am well aware of the dangers and I take great caution. I never take risks and never go off alone.

Anyways, sounds like a great place. My favorite is Puerto Escondido. Not a tourist place and hard to get to. Somewhere I would never go alone. I have a feeling it would be your kind of place. If you like extreme heat you would love it there.

I hope Brian gets some relief with his wrist. I know the pain. I had it when I had those 4 extremely colicky babies. I carried them 24/7 and really did a number on my wrists. I couldn't pick up anything without dropping it. I found the wrist brace to be a real pain also so I wore it at night only and that really helped to calm things down. I hope the holiday and the sun and the Margarita's help with the pain.. Have a few for me...k

Sherri

Lisa, thanks very much for the input. I didn't see your post until just now. Brian is searching for his brace as we speak.

Many hugs,

Kat

Molly, that's exactly where Brian has the worst of this pain, root of thumb into wrist. I don't want him to have more cortisone shots at this point. He's had two this year already (3 if you count the one where the doctor missed the mark). Enough is enough, already.

It's frustrating for him, as I know you can imagine, as he's a fitness buff and weight training is a big part of that. To finally have his elbow, shoulder and legs at full efficiency, only to be bit in the butt by this and still be unable to do his programme properly is maddening for him.

At least the docs are listening to him now. Small mercies add up, you know.

Many hugs,

Kat

Hi Maggie, thanks for the link. An interesting read.

You're right about the Celebrex, I know. He knows too. But you know how it is. One doesn't touch it, so it's two off the bat. His rheumy made his current prescription out for one a day, with which I agree due to the heart issues. But I can't argue with him on it because he wants the pain gone and I understand that. It's a nasty Catch-22 situation.

It was great after the last cortisone shot, as he was complete pain free for two whole weeks. Now, it's back. Hopefully, he will be able to find his wrist brace and that will help. It's helped before.

Many hugs,

Kat
