Hi there
Just wondering if anyone has had the experience of fainting or maybe just feeling odd after 1 day on the apple fast?
I have been going really well on the NSD but still have quite a bit on niggling pain in my neck & shoulder joints.

After reading many posts about others successes on the apple fast I though I would give it a go. I had planed to fast for 3 days and after one good day on apples and organic apple juice I felt fine and was looking forward to the next day.

However the second morning I got out of bed, went to the kitchen to have a drink of water, felt a little odd so went to the bathroom called out to my husband, sat on the loo and fainted. The next thing I know I am in a funny postion draped over the bath and not able to move for a few seconds....which felt more like minutes! It was a bit like waking up from an anestetic after having surgery, quite weird.

The only thing I can think of is that because it was a Saturday morning and I was watching the Rugby World Cup Enlgand v Tonga....a small pacific nation...and procrastinating about getting out of bed, I may have just left it too late to get up and eat, albeit only apples?

Copnsequently My husband made me an omelete and my fast finished There and then.

I am still convinced that it must be good for you as once I had fully recovered, about 3 hours, I had the most amazing amount of energy which continued for the whole week-end. My hubby seems to think I had a knock on the head on the way down, that turned me into super wife!!! I was like a clock that had just been fully wound up!

I plan to keep to a 1 day apple fast once a week just for now.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Hmm! Sure John will say something, but here goes my two bob's worth.
Hope you get lots more ideas and no more occurrences.

1 How much water were you drinking? You were on way to get some, better at bed-side.
One drinks heaps of good water when fasting, even on an apple fast.

2 Fasting equals toxin release, usual effects more like headache, but who knows in each case different.

3 Fainting is from lack of blood/oxygen to the extremities (ie the head) and can occur after a nite in a cramped non-moving position in bed - usually when warm, but not restless enough to toss/turn/move. Also can occur with ineffective breathing.
And hey, it also can happen in early pregnancy - as noted in every first aid course i've done.

4 Short fasts are good value, but i would recommend water fasts with no apples. 24 hrs, later on 36 hrs, 48 hrs. Then an apple fast. LOTS and LOTS of water - it's a flush.

You probably had blood sugar that went a wee bit too low. Eating will raise it. You might want to start with shorter fasts and work your way up.

I'm prone to fainting and had to be very careful on the apple fast. A few suggestions:
1) Get up and out of bed very slowly in the morning. Sit up slowly and sit on the side of the bed for a while, then stand up, pause and then start moving. Ditto if you get up to use the loo during the night.
2) Be sure to eat some apples shortly before bed the night before.
3) If you still feel faint in the morning, try having some apple juice before you get out of bed. Wait about 5-10 minutes after the juice and then start moving around.
4) If you start to feel funny, stop immediately and lie down or at least sit down. You don't want to crash going down and hurt yourself.

I'm glad you weren't hurt when you fainted and it sounds like the one day apple fast was beneficial, even if you couldn't go any longer. Despite everything you try, one day may be the most your body can handle.

Thanks for your advice Karen, actually another thing that I did was to get out of bed in a hurry to answer the phone, so will be a lot more carefull next time.

Hi Ted
I did try to drink water but maybe not enough.
Also experienced a headache that night which usually happens if I don't get my caffine fix for the day. No worries about being pregnant, after having 5 children, bless them all and a hysterectomy there is no way that will happen again!
I like the idea of a water fast but love my food to much, even if only apples, so maybe down the track a bit I could try. In the meantime will increase my water intake. Thanks for the advice. Andrea
