I'm new to the KickAS forum and was wondering if anyone else here has tried the Marshall Protocol treatment for their AS or related diseases? If so, how has it been working for you? I'm about 6 months into in myself and have had some pretty good results...

Just what is the Marshall Protocol? I can't say as I've ever heard of it. I'd be interested in reading about it.

Nana,

The Marshall Protocol is a treatment plan developed by a PhD. microbiologist named Trevor Marshall. His theory is that most of the "autoimmune" and inflamatory diseases are caused by cell wall deficient bacteria that live inside the immune systems white blood cells. These bacteria in turn corrupt the immune system which leads to the many different diagnoses. The treatment involves targeting the CWD bacteria through the use of Olmesartan and low dose pulsed antibiotics. If you'd like to read more about it, see www.marshallprotocol.com ...

For anyone interested in an easy to read explanation of the Protocol, I've come across a story on the new website Bacteriality.com. It's written by a biology graduate from Georgetown University. Here's a link to the story: Bacteriality: Understanding Chronic Disease

There's also a new question and answer site for the Marshall Protocol here: Marshall QA Site They created this site because the original Marshall Protocol site was becoming overloaded and to separate those looking into the protocol from those involved in the phase 2 study...

I have been reading on the Marshall Protocol website and the theory behind it sounds very logical. It is also scary about vitamin D, in that I have been sunning myself to add to my vit D, possibly to my detriment.

What I have yet to figure out is this, does the klebsiella reactive theory coincide with or contradict the cell wall deficient/vitamin D theory proposed by Marshall.

Would like to hear some of the more learned KickASer's weigh in on this theory.

I have only briefly looked at the marshall protocoll the other day, .. so I don't know a lot about it yet...

but as to your reference of vitamin D . . .there are several types of vitamin D & you really don't get a lot from the sun to make a huge impact on anything... my daughter's on vitamin D3 (100+ units a day) to help combat insulin-resistant diabetes. (prescribed by her ped). Until he told me to start that suplement, I had no idea that there was mor than one kind of vitamin D! I also know that the added Vit. D in homogenized Milk is gone by the time you drink it.

MP risks

And the fact that he is not a medical doctor bothers some

The findings on vitamin D are pretty alarming if they are true. They certainly are an embarrassment to the proponents of high dosage vitamin D therapy as evidenced by the website references that drizzit has shared and the lengths that some have gone to discredit Marshall personally. However even the author of one of those pages admits that "We don’t mean to imply that the protocol is ineffective or unsafe..." I think they do have a valid point in stating that more study is needed but the ARF is already working with the FDA towards these ends. I believe they've obtained orphan drug status for 2 of the drugs used in the therapy and have several more applications outstanding. Of course, Marshall isn’t the only one raising the alarm on vitamin D as evidenced by this recent study I referenced in an earlier thread here by Duke University. Duke Study Abstract

As far as other bacterial infections go this doesn't necessarily contradict the science behind the MP as I believe the model allows for opportunistic co-infections. You might find this thread interesting even though it doesn't specifically talk about klebsiella: Co-Infections

Good luck on finding an alternative treatment that works for you...

The MP isn’t for everyone, it takes a certain dedication and willingness to think out of the box that some people don’t possess. Since you’re seeking out new alternative treatments your current one obviously must not be working very well so I hope you can find something that you’re comfortable with that provides you some relief. Good luck and please keep us informed on what you find…

Has anyone here tried it successfully??????

I am so confused by all these theories and people having good luck with a variety of treatments. I feel like jumping off a bridge.
