Hi,

Has anybody tried the Bad Gastein treatment in Austria were
you go into the mountain which gives off Randon Gas. Apparently 3,500 people a year with AS go there with incredible results.

Hi Marcus,

I am from Austria (I live in Vienna)and know people who did the Radon Treatment in Bad Gastein. I could try and put you in contact with some people who've been there, however, most of them speak only German. Would that help at all?

I haven't been there myself but heard that people really enjoy the treatment and it seems to help within reason. Not magic though.

Austria has a very good public health system and most people diagnosed with AS can go to Bad Gastein for 3 weeks every year paid for by their insurance...

Hi Cristina,

I'm from Sydney Australia. I spoke to a guy here in Australia recently who has been to Bad Gastein 3 times
for the treatment & said it has totally changed his life.
Even his blood test have improved ESR gone from 70 down to 10. I have family who live in Saalfelden & seriously thinking of going as my AS is detroying me & if I can get
benefit from this treatment would be great. It's just the
distance & cost from Australia thats why i'm doing as much
research as possible. How are you going with your AS!

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

Australia to Austria will be quite a trip! But Saalfelden is pretty close to Bad Gastein. Probably a couple of hours in the car or so.

I haven't tried the Radon, as shortly after I was (officially) diagnosed with AS I left Austria for about 11 years. In the meantime (about 5 years ago) I have started on the NSD Diet which has really helped and lowered my pain level a lot.

I've come back to Austria last year and since I was busy with getting settled back in, finding a job etc, I didn't have a chance to check out the possiblity of going there. Then my husband and I started trying for a baby and now I'm pregnant, so I won't be going for a while.

I'm a member of a very active AS Self Help Group here in Vienna, and I have met a few people who go to Bad Gastein regularly. However, they are all also on some sort of medication, so it is hard to say what really helps. In addition to the sitting in the Radon tunnels, you also do a lot of exercise (or so I recall) so that probably helps too.

There is another Radon treatment center in the Czech Republic, here's the link: http://www.laznejachymov.cz/en/

Let me know if I can give any other info! All the best!

Regards, Christina
