If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi Linda, you could say that, its used for all sorts, candida, arthritis, athletes, autism, theres all sorts of versions out there. There are candida groups on yahoo one run by someone called bee who calls it her programme, the body ecology diet, the scd diet, the hampton plan, protein power, going against the grain, no grain diet, paleo diet, Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, neanderthin. life without bread, dangerous grains. Theres quite a bit out there these are just a few books by separate authors for various reasons related to health and conditions. Some are a good read and have odd bits to add and possibly improve what you are doing already.

Hey windrider, This is one of your short posts. Apart from the new posts, I only read posts by a few people that I consider the penny has dropped. I always read your posts. Good luck George

Hi linda,
thanks for the interesting post
Quote:
The inflammatory rating with this breakfast is each egg ~-50, bacon ~-4, and OJ ~-100 for a total of -204 and overall inflammatory but WAY better than the normal toast ~-180, cereal ~-300, milk ~- 140, and OJ ~-100 for a total of ~-720. Now I have eggs for -100, bacon for -4, tomatoe juice for +50 to which I add 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper (tastes like a snappy V-8) for +250 to total nearly +200 and, therefore, a very anti-inflammatory meal.
As far as what is anti-inflammatory and what is pro-inflammatory this list is really messed up when it comes to AS. Perhaps it works really well for folks with the more typical form of rheumatoid arthritis. Not AS, sorry.
== Your list had : ==
egg ~-50
bacon ~-4
OJ ~-100
toast ~-180
cereal ~-300
milk ~- 140
eggs -100
tomatoe juice +50
garlic potatoes : nearly neutral
== my list would be something like this: ==
egg +10
bacon +10
OJ -10
toast ~-300
cereal ~-300
milk ~- 240
eggs +10
tomatoe juice +10
garlic potatoes : -300 (garlic and potatoes are both very bad for my AS)

linda, rather than buying what I presume to be an expensive supplement may I suggest that you buy a juicer machine and juice fruit, veg, and especially carrots. I have tried OPC / antioxidant supplements before and couldn't really feel any significant change. However juicing fruit + veg has a wonderful effect on my overall health, including my AS. Carrot juice really is great stuff.. but do not overdo it as too much will give you 'carotene poisoning' (some folks probably drink litres of the stuff ?? I really dont know how much carrot juice it takes as I have never had carotene poisoning). I think about 5 carrots worth of juice a day should suffice? all the best, z

Hi Zark, I, too, was sure it wouldn't work for me and then I was so impressed with my patient's success I decided to be open-minded and trial and was truly amazed... Linda

Zark, I've had lots of patients swear by juicing and have been tempted to experiment with this in the past. The truth is, however, I'm lazy and besides that I love chomping into real food and right now I'm loving the way I feel!! Linda

It seems like if someone is going to make a claim that some foods are non-inflammatory and some are pro-inflammatory they should be able to communicate by what means the food is causing the inflammation, some test that other researchers have or could repeat to verify.
Does she ever discuss how she arrived at the decision about the inflammatoriness of foods?

Yes, briefly, the inflammatory rating is based on: 1)type of fat to include ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 2)with fatty acids points are added for EPA, DHA, GLA and subtracted for ARA 3)amounts of various antioxidant nutrients 4)amounts of homocysteine-lowering vitamins 5)glycemic index 6)high vitamin K gets extra points 7)anti-inflammatory phytochemicals, i.e., turmeric, ginger, chili pepper, pineapple, garlic, etc., receive high ratings
I have not acquired her reference material for review, but all are prestigious journals. What I enjoy most with this book is that each food is assigned an inflammatory rating and you can pump up the anti-inflammatory quality of your diet quantitatively. Personally, I wouldn't have considered substituting tomato juice with 1/2 tsp of cayenne for my morning OJ if I hadn't seen that highly anti-inflammatory number attached to the cayenne! Linda

Zark, OPCxtra costs me about $10/month. Pretty cheap in the big scheme of things. About the same price as three celebrex and I usually use at least eight of those in a month... linda
