Hi everyone,

I just found out that my rheumy (the only one in town) is leaving our small city to move to Columbus, OH -- so am wondering if anyone out there knows of a good rheumatologist in any of these places:

Dayton, OH
Cincinnati,OH
Indianapolis, IN
or Muncie, IN

All of those places are within driving distance for me albeit not as convenient as having one here in town. Also, although I've been taking a low dose of sulfasalazine and haven't been following the NSD (even though I firmly believe it works) -- if you happen to know a doctor that would be more supportive or open to the NSD or more progressive -- that would be great to know, too.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Paula

Hey there Paula,
Let me pull out my trusty patient recommended Rheumys and see what I come up with. Here are some listed for Cincinnati.
Dr.Matthew Burton
Group Health Assoc
8245 Northcreek
Cincinnati, OH
513-745-4740

Dr. Olga Petrovic
2123 Auburn Ave Ste 440
Cincinnati, OH
513-357-5254

Dr. Michael Pordy
2925 Vernon Place
Cincinnati, OH
513-281-7600

Dr. Avis Ware
Cincinnati Arthrits Association
2123 Auburn Ave #630
Cincinnati, OH
513-585-1970
I don't see any in Dayton. This list is a couple years old though.
Here are some in Indianapolis and Muncie
Dr. James Ehlich Jr.
Eastside Rheumatology Inc.
7155 Shadeland Station Ste. 110
Indianapolis, IN
317-577-9999

Dr. Edward Gabovitch
Arthritis Care Center-Clarin Health
1801 N. Senate Blvd. Ste.315
Indianapolis, IN
317-962-3500

Dr. Gordon Hughes
Rheumatology/Medical Consultants Inc.
100 N. Tillotson Ave
Muncie, IN
765-281-2020

Dr. Rosemarie Jeffery
Medical Consultants
800 S Tillotson Ave
Muncie, IN
765-281-2000

These are all recommended by patients. Meaning these people are recommending their docs to others because they are happy with their care with them and want to help others find good docs without having to shop around.
Good luck in your search
Cindy

Hi Paula, I also got an email the other day with a website to rate your Dr. It has some interesting feedback on it. Might be worthwhile checking it out. www.ratemds.com

Hopefully that works for you.

Hi Paula,

Sorry I've been so bad about keeping in touch. I think of you (and all of my friends in Indiana) often. We'll be back in Connersville in early July, but only for about 3 days because we're going on an Alaska cruise this year! Just wanted to tell you that my rheumy was Dr. Denise Thornberry in Indianapolis. She was the one who diagnosed me back in 1985 and I saw her until we left in '05. When we left Indiana she was working out of the Methodist Hospital medical centers on the West side and the North side. Don't know if she still is; she moved offices several times during the years that I went to her. I don't know what her stance would be on the NSD but I was always satisfied with the treatment that I received for my mild AS. Good luck with your search!

Connie

Thanks, Connie! I'll keep her in mind. I'm actually half considering the idea of asking my family physician here in town if she would be willing to work with me in regard to my AS (I'm on sulfazine, and need blood-work every three months) -- and then seeking out a rheumatologist if and when things get worse or out of hand. There's a professor at the seminary that has RA and has to go in every two weeks -- and she's really frustrated that Dr. Madan is leaving town. I'm not quite sure what to do, and frankly, I'm not feeling real motivated to do much about it even though I need to.

I have only 6 courses left and will graduate -- finally -- next May. One of those courses is a 400 hour clinical at a hospital this summer in Troy, OH. I'm actually planning to live in Troy during the week, and will come home for weekends. In the meantime -- since classes ended -- I've been dragging my feet. I have a load of projects I thought I would get done -- and so far haven't really done anything but read, relax, watch movies, cook . . . But I really need to get myself in gear. I always feel that I need a couple weeks of R&R right after the semester ends!!

If you're here over a weekend -- I'd love to see you if you have time -- but I also understand that you'll have lots to do in those three days. Have a wonderful time on the Alaska cruise!! That sounds great!! Give my greetings to Drew!

Paula
