Consider yourself fortunate Pete... I think that gives you a headstart in my opinion. I believe in leaky gut and NSAID's and alcohol are the big culprits (especially the former).

Hi Tim - I just happened to read this post which is why I passed on the info. As you can see, it gives NO explanation as to why NOT to supplement, but I thought it would be worth investigating, if anyone was thinking of using the supplement. If someone wanted to press Bee for the info, I'm sure she would come up with it. It's from the Candid Support Group at Yahoo, which is the Healing Naturally by Bee Group. So far, I am having great success with all her advice, so I trust her (almost as much as I trust you).

==>It is dangerous to supplement L-gluatmine, but I do not have time to
explain. Good saturated fats like butter, coconut oil, lard, fish oil
and other natural fats and oils heal and strengthen the intestines the
most effectively. Also the lining of your intestines regenerates every
4 days.

Very interesting.... first I have read this reference. I have not supplemented with L-glutamine for years, but all I have read in past has indicated this is a good supplement for intestinal repair. Imagine like everything else, not everyone will always agree.... wish we all came with an operating manual

Thanks for compliment, right back at you. Loved the link to the website and have written down a few of the recipes for later use.

Lard? What's a good source of lard?
All that comes to mind is that white stuff that looks like cool whip. I can't imagine eating it by the spoon full.
Do you cook with it?

Also, I have been seeing a nutritionist, who is great! Since we're all looking for ways to get good healthy fats, she stronly recommends to stay away from vegetable oil (especially don't cook with it). And also, do not cook with olive oil. They both turn into trans fats when heated. Coconut oil, flax seed oil, and grape seed oil are much better options. You may all know this, but I didn't, so I thought I'd just pass it along.
Also Ghee (spelling?), a an Indian way of preparing butter and can be found at Indian grocery stores. Basically it is butter without the lactose!
Hope some of this is beneficial.

It just seems so frustrating and rediculous: the main drug to releave AS symptoms is the main propogator for wrosening the disease.

The best beef fat is from animals fed only on grass. It has a high proportion of omega-3 fatty acids. Unfortunately the usual factory farmed aninmals are fed on grain. Here in the UK organically reared grass fed meat is very expensive.

Ditto the states... fortunately not so in Argentina. Most still graze and beef is very cheap here (this may be your utopia Bilko).

At a good restaurant, a good piece of beef (other than top line Buenos Aires restaurants) may be $30 pesos or $10 US or $5 pounds... and that is at a very good restaurant.

Beef at your normal restaurant here is better than any I ate at in the states and even cheaper.

My gut issues are related to grains, especially wheat/rye/barley (anything containing gluten) and corn. Next in line of gut irritants for me are: soy, dairy. I think rice is pushing it, I try to avoid it except for rice bran.

I may have celiac disease, I didn't get a formal diagnosis but Enterolab.com did a genetic test and fecal antibody test and found pretty good evidence gluten and dairy were a problem for me.

Anyway, my 15+ years of IBS went away when I went gluten/dairy free. Things continued to get better and my AS is barely noticable these days. I think a paleo style diet is excellent for me. I hope you find something that works well for you!

Oh yes, I also use kefir made from coconut milk as a probiotic and occassionally kefir from goat milk. And I use coconut flour and rice bran for baking. Both low starch/low carb.
