Health Benefits of the Natural Squatting Position
Seven Advantages of Squatting
Makes elimination faster, easier and more complete. This helps prevent "fecal stagnation," a prime factor in colon cancer, appendicitis and inflammatory bowel disease.

Protects the nerves that control the prostate, bladder and uterus from becoming stretched and damaged.

Securely seals the ileocecal valve, between the colon and the small intestine. In the conventional sitting position, this valve is unsupported and often leaks during evacuation, contaminating the small intestine.

Relaxes the puborectalis muscle which normally chokes the rectum in order to maintain continence.

Uses the thighs to support the colon and prevent straining. Chronic straining on the toilet can cause hernias, diverticulosis, and pelvic organ prolapse.

A highly effective, non-invasive treatment for hemorrhoids, as shown by published clinical research.

For pregnant women, squatting avoids pressure on the uterus when using the toilet. Daily squatting helps prepare the mother-to-be for a more natural delivery.

I built the cabin where I've lived for the last 16 years with a squat toilet and now find sitting on a "regular" toilet feels unnatural . Have enjoyed them in S.E. Asia, and imagine that (squatting) position to be the norm for most of the population of the world. Can't beat nature!

My wife and I spent 5 weeks in China several years ago and joined up with an American group who were entering China in Bejing and after a few weeks, exited China into Hong Kong.

While in Bejing, we visited many old buildings and sacred areas and even saw the preserved body of Chairman Mao. The bathroom areas squatting type and it was at first, difficult to get used to, especially when others were doing the same thing beside you.

It gets to be a messy situation when children are using the same area and have "bad aim"

On the trains down to the exit to Hong Kong, it was even more difficult as the bathroom on some of the trains are a challenge. When you open the door, the first thing that you see is a fairly big hole on the floor of the mens room and looking down through the hole, all you see in the hole are the tracks rushing by and a brownish streak running down the middle of the tracks.

It is difficult to place yourself properly around this hole so that you are not placing your shoes close to the edge of the hole. One slip and you end up with one leg bouncing along the rail tracks. If you are lucky, another men's room visitor may help pull you back up but by the time you get back to your seat on the train, you are a real mess and also may have an odiferous scent.

Benefits of squat toilets on a Chinese train? May have some benefits but absolutely, not when the train is entering a sharp curve.

Holy cow George, you have my laughing my butt off! That is EXACTLY what I found while travelling by myself in Thailand a few years ago! I had no one else to laugh at the situation with me, and I swear when I tell the train/squat toilet story here, people just don't get it. But now I know you do! I just remember the train rocking back and forth, and I didn't want to touch ANYTHING in that grimey bathroom, but I needed to steady myself...oh it was hilarious. Had to be there.
Thanks George!

Maybe this thread needs to be posted in the "jokes" forum

I haven't been on a train with a squat toilet, but the descriptions here have me laughing!

Thanks guys, I really needed a laugh today!

OMG!!!!!....lol

Now I have heard of everything..

I wonder if there is a way to check that and see if people from China or Thailand dont ever have Hemmeroids, or all the other things mentioned.

The most difficult thing for me Megan was to open the door to the mens room and if you were lucky, you would find that you are the only one there at the same time.

If you weren't lucky, you would hear a noise and turn around to find several people in line, waiting to get closer to the hole in the floor.

I'm just not used to having an audience when doing things like this. Thank God they didn't all start to applaud. They did do a lot of laughing though.
