I have tried several different beds, but the one that is best for me is the SelectComfort SleepNumber bed. It has air chambers inside that you can adjust to whatever firmness you like. It doesn't have springs or lumpy spots! My mother also had this same bed when she was unable to move much from MS. They use these air mattress beds a lot for people who are bedridden to keep from getting bed sores.

Hi Shaz
I love my bed. I still can not sleep quite a lot of the time but I can not blame it on my bed.
12 years ago I got a water bed, a 95% movement reduction bed. It is like it has watery mud rather than just water in it. I have in the past used a normal water bed. That was like a roller coaster in comparison.
With my bed there are no pressure points and I can lay on my back without a pillow and it is almost like I am floating. It is not all good though, I can not lay on my front, but then again I can not anyway, It takes about 2 - 3 weeks to get used to it, Dorothy hated it at first now loves it, Moving around and getting out of bed takes a certain technic, but once mastered works well.
All in I would recommend one. I just got three last year for my house in Florida and I paid less than for one in the UK.
They are also good for people with chest problems.
I almost forgot the heater is great so long as you do not have it too high. I have the heater on a timer so it is not on at night Dorothy read that the electrical currant under you can affect your system.
That completes my advertising presentation for the water bed industry.
Keep well
Bi Hugh
PS
as for the usual comments about a water bed improving your sex life. It changes some things and that is all I can say

We have a Serta Firm mattress. I actually love it. The bed we had before was killing me. I could barely move in the AM, but with the firm mattress, it's not nearly as painful. Of course there's the normal aches and pains, but it's much better. It seems that anything too soft just kills me. Before this mattress, I used to sleep on the floor because our other bed was soft. It's made a huge difference for me.
Hope this helps.

I bought a memory foam mattress a couple of years back and it completely changed my sleep. It was so much better!! For the first time in about 15 years, I was able to sleep on my back without my lumbar area seizing up on me.

Unfortunately, mine's a double bed, and Brian and I use his king size (necessary given how tall we both are - my double was just a little too cozy) and we cannot afford to buy a memory foam mattress for it just now. But as soon as we have the money, we're buying one. I already informed Brian of that.

Many hugs,

Kat

Loved my Select Comfort when living in the States. Moved to Argentina and not available here... I need a mattress that is not too firm, if too firm, then wake up with aches and pains.

HI,

I think that really firm mattress is not so good, but.....
I have mattress of "tempur", it is a memory foam, after few minutes when it warms up with my temperature it acts like a mould, so it is like its made for you.
There is no need to move during the night.Body is more relaxed

hope this helps

Well, I've seen this conversation before
This seems to be a hot issue whenever it comes up.
Hubby and I are in the process of moving and not taking our old waterbed along. There's nothing like a good waterbed, but I don't want to fool with the water and set up anymore. I have been all over the place trying all kinds of beds for the last 6 months. I've checked out the Temperpedic memory foam, Select Comfort air, and many standard matresses. Temperpedic foam? too expensive for me and really wasn't comfortable enough. Select Comfort air? Was almost sold on it but was affraid of all those "bells and whistles" too much to go wrong. I must have tries literally 100 different standard mattresses and believe it or not, I actually found one that is more comfortable than all of the above. I could really get comfortable on my back and for the first time in 15 years, I could lay on my sides. It's a Beauty Rest, brand new this year. Can't think of the style name, but I'm sold on it and I am buying one this month.
Different strokes for different folks they say
Good luck on your search
Cindy

Interesting you should say the tempurpedic mattresses are too hard. I've heard this, too. Thankfully, my memory foam mattress is generic and much softer. Like sinking into a cloud!

Moral of the story? Not all memory foam is alike. Sometimes, as with men, you have to try alot of 'toads' before you find a good one.

Many hugs,

Kat
