Hi all,

It is sad to hear that one of the worlds most dedicated animal activists Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter passed away off byron bay whilst filming a documentary. He was struck by the barb of a stingray which pierced his left side of the chest killing him.
He is very much loved Home here in Asutralia and I am in disbelief at the sad news of the courageous mans passing. He did for animals what Elvis I feel has done for music.
All my prayers are now with his wife and children,
May the light hold his soul and the love care for his family

i'm so sorry to all his loved ones
with tears in my eyes
Sal

Thanks for sharing. What a loss. I loved watching him but my grandson will be devestated. It is scary. My grand daughter got caught by a sting ray in the ocean and it really did a number on her. Doesn't keep her out of the water though.

Thanks for sharing. It is the middle of the night and no sleep and now I will keep thinking of him and thinking of his family.

A loss for us all.

Feeling really sad this morning here in UK. Steve was my son's hero when he was growning up. He's at school right now so won't have heard the news.

My thoughts are with Steves wife and 2 children.

RIP Steve.

Take care

I can not believe it!!!

Have not been asleep all night (dang insomnia) and woke up to read this on the internet.

Bill is on his way to the airport and I called him crying!

This is just so sad, leaving his wife and an 8 year old daughter and 2 year old son.

Our whole family loved watching him..

My thoughts and prayers will be going out to Terri and his family.

This is really sad. This man was popular all over the world to all sorts of people and age groups.

When my father died, on his last night, he was at some time too tired to speak and to be honest everything was said. So he notified us he just liked to watch the television a bit. We were lucky because there was a pogram about sailing ships and as he was a man of boats and the sea, so we could see he liked it. But the program stopped and it looked like there was really nothing that was suitable for this moment. But there was Steve and a program about komododragons. At first I wanted to switch the tele off, the creatures didn't look like the things you would like to see in your last moments. But my father nodded no and said what only can be translated as "gorgeous animals" and that were his last words before he died peacefully. So yes I'm pretty emotional today and writing this doesn't make it better. I Still feel I owe Steve something for that moment.

My heart is with Steve, Terry and the kids and with my father of course.

Hi Sally,

Yes, this is so tragic and such a shock. His poor family.

I'm sure Steve would be upset if this resulted in people being frightened or "demonising" sting-rays as they are typically gentle creatures. Such a shame - just a freak accident.

We can only hope Terri and his kids continue his conservation work and keep his legacy alive.
