It's a medicine for back pain. I am not sure if it is an NSAID or not. I would be interested in any information on this.
I would like to get off of the Celebrex because it seems
like a vicious circle. You take it to help the inflammation but from what I've read it can cause a leaky gut syndrome. I quit taking it but then was limping around in great pain and was ready to buy a cane.
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks !! Rio

Hi Rio,
SOMA is a muscle relaxant. I took it when I first had back pain at age 15.

Maybe you can ask your doc to change you to a different NSAID, but I think just about every one available is bad for your gut.

Good luck with the NSD. It helped me a LOT. (Stretching as much as you can on a daily basis is also something you should try if you haven't already.)

Hope you feel better soon!

Before I knew I had AS about the age of 19, My docotors put me on Soma for a while worked like a charm, no symptoms for years. Then it hit again, and they put me on feldine, once again, went away for years. Then, at 33 I was diagnosed and they put me on Indocin worked well until my hip was bone on bone. Had a hip replacement and I am doing pretty well on indocin and Enbrel.

hi there..
sorry about your back pain..
but soma is a muscle relaxant not a NSAID. its helped me for the last 6 years through my worst spasms. it relaxes me...no driving while on this stuff though! it doesnt make me sleepy....just relaxed..a bit groovy. lol

unlike flexeril it doesnt knock me out cold. i take 3x a day 300 mg. it is the only relaxant that helped me. flexeril doesnt help the spasms..just all of a sudden if i dont hit the bed i will pass out cold on the floor and thats not a good thing. i tried skelaxin a few years back 1600 mg a day but it didnt touch the spasms one bit.

i believe alohaben said his doc said it was equivelant to 1/2 a qualude or something to that effect??? sorry if i'm wrong. but i cant take nsaids and vicodin is my emergency only and it nauseates me. soma allows me to still be at home and function without passing out and getting some thoracic and rib relief. i'm currently on remicade and it helped alot but the soma always helps on the spasms.
hope this helps!

Wow ! My M.D. just prescribed Vicoden and I'm feeling pretty good. Am able to actually DO the stretches and get things done around the house. But with Soma too ?? Wow, that must be nice, nice, nice.
How long do they allow a person stay on the Vicoden ?? Any limit? Thanks, Rio P.S. My friend who is visiting here from Tucson said that your picture is very nice and that you don't look sick!! I haven't seen her for 10 years and she came out here to Ohio to give me some support at this time. It's really wonderful having her here. We've been running around all over having fun. We are even lifting weights. Thanks, Rio

Hello Carolina Connie,
Since beginning the Vicoden I started spontaneously stretching and am now doing a regular evening session of simple Yoga exercises. It bothers me that when doing the "Bridge" my lower back pops like fireworks, pop, pop, pop, about 7 times. It's disturbing.
I've mentioned this elsewhere and my fear that this means my lumbars are beginning to fuse or something. Have you had alot of clunks and pops when you excercise ??? Thank you, Rio
