Hello Friends,

This past summer, I was in so much pain in my upper stomache.

Oh it hurt so bad, I just laid on my bed for two days hoping I would pass some gas or something...
sorry, I know you may not want to hear that kind of thing, but I was not having a bowl movement or passing gas or anything.

And I thought I may be dying of cancer or something.

I didn't really want to go to the doctor's office, coz I didn't want to get up out of bed.

Finally, I had to go.

My M.D ordered and ultra sound and x-rays and did some blood tests. She determined it was a Fatty Liver.

What does this mean to me?
I mean is that a first stage to a liver failure.

I promise I just want info...I am not affraid or a pesimist or anything. I don't look for all the negatives in life...I just want to know more about what may be going on inside of me...and honestly doctors don't really tell you a lot do they?
I looked up Fatty Liver on line but didn't learn a lot really except that it isn't really pretty. Does any of you have problems with your liver?

I thought it was funny that the doc asked me if I ever drank liquor...LOL
I said well yeah.
Not like a fish, but I do like Margaritas on occassion.

But I was thinking...what about all those pills that I take???

I told my rhemy about the Fatty Liver...he asked if I still wanted to take the Relafin...I said absolutely or even something else if you know of something better...coz I wanna have a pain free life as much as possible.

Sorry, I wrote a book here.
Thank you in advance for your replies.

I am dealing with the same thing. Just had scopes ruling out other things. My liver is enlarged and also has the bright spots. Probably fatty liver but possibly cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis. I had biopsies of my intestines and when he calls with the results we will decide where we go from here. From all accounts that I read, fatty liver doesn't usually hurt but pain is why I called it to the dr's attention and we did the pancreas/liver ultra-sounds. My blood work is ok though so that is good.

I am going to a dietician this week for a special diet for the liver. I am not looking forward to it but I will do it to protect my liver. I understand it can progress to a real problem and I will do all I can to keep that from happening.

Just hang in there and I will here. We can compare notes.

Best wishes.
Possi

Hi Possi,
I am sorry to hear that you are going through the pain and having to go through those tests...ughhh.
I don't like test do you?
Yeah, I need to learn more about this, coz it seems to flare up every now and then, but nothing like this past summer, thank goodness.

I appreciate your reply, and yes we will keep in touch about this.

Hi Sunshine,
Just read your post, have never suffered from fatty liver myself, however have just been on the internet, found some websites, hope they help? See links:-

If it was myself & I was taking NSAD's, think I'd change to another type, can't see how that would cause any harm.

Best wishes.

George.

Thanks for those links, George...

Sunny and Possi, my hubby, Ron's, fatty liver was found during an abdominal ultrasound. It was very slight, and he had no pain associated to this condition. The internist told Ron he has Gilbert's Syndrome, and that was the end of it. His Bilirubin is slightly elevated, but that's about it. Nothing was suggested about changes to diet, meds, or anything else. I'd be interested to learn about both your journeys as well. Please keep us all posted...

Hi Sigrid,

I will keep in touch. I hope to find out more soon. I really think we won't do anything except diet and watch but I may be wrong. With the Lupus, they may want to biopsy it. I hope not but I hear that happens a lot so they can be sure what is going on. The Imuran can be really hard on your liver and I really need it . Also, the pain meds can be really hard on your liver. Guess I will find out. It gets more painful as I am more active. Another concern of mine is the fact that I retain a lot of abdominal fluid and when it builds up I have to take a Lasix. The first time I dropped 11 pounds in 2 days! That and the pain concerns me.

How are you? I have been thinking of you and haven't talked with you in a while. Got to go get ready for Bible Study.

Blessings. I will be in touch.

I had a great, but very busy month in March-pretty pain free. But the AS hit me full force a week ago Sunday, and I'm in miserable pain-but hanging in-happy that Spring has sprung and the weather is nicer... Took me a while to catch up on my reading here.

Blessings, Sigrid
