If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi all and anyone - I hate to reply to myself, but I am still wondering if anyone has had any problems with their hand swelling? If so, does heat affect the swelling? I'd appreciate any info. Thanks for any replies.

hi I get trouble with my right hand, the wrist swells and the little finger and 1 next to it are so painful. I had a hand support but didnt find it helpful, I had ultrasound treatment a few times when it was so bad i couldnt grip anything and that seemed to work, also hot wax treatment that they do in beauty salons for conditioning your hands was lovely even though thats not the reason I had it done! Not sure what brings it on, its certainly not the heat living in England more like the damp weather. Best Wishes Sam

Yes, that was one of my many additions a few years ago. After a couple years the swelling has subsided for the most part but the pain is still there. I have to constantly crack my wrists loose, sounds awful, painful, but it does keep them from freezing up, like my back. Cindy

Thanks Sam, That hot wax sounds like it would feel really nice right now. I've had it done a few times, but not lately. It isn't swollen today, but I am concerned as to whether it will become a regular happening. Have you ever had trouble with carpal tunnel? I had a lot of trouble with that in my left hand and had surgery on it a few years back. I have read that that is also a form of arthritis. Thanks so much for your reply, Wanda

I havnt had carpel tunnel but a friend in my AS group has. She had surgery but it didnt make any difference and she wished she not had it done. I had terrible pains in my fingers last night couldnt even hold the mouse, and this morning i woke up and my hand was numb. Seems ok now though, lets hope it lasts the day. Sam

I don't know if this is relevant. My dr. diagnosed all of my hand/finger problems as RA. Overlapping diseases. Just a thought. Hope you get relief. Possi

I had carpel tunnel about 5yrs ago and had surgery for it. I don't remember any swelling though, just a sharp pain that would shoot down my arm that would keep me up all night in pain. Not what you have but best of luck to ya.

Thanks Possi, That kind of crossed my mind also. I have an appt. with the rheumy next month, I'm going to talk to him about it. I called his office Friday morning, but he wasn't in. She said they could put me on prednisone, but since I've got a colonoscopy scheduled this week they shouldn't. Thanks so much for the reply. Wanda

hi wanda, just peeped in and saw your post.. yes...i have lots of problems with my hands and wrists. i dont have carpal and my doc says its as related. i've rarely had swelling but late last year i did have swelling in my left hand and wrist. my family doc's asst kept asking if i hurt it doing something ..since he assumed as is only in the spine..till my doc told him nope...it was synovitis...they put me on a medrol pack and it helped and it hasnt swelled since. but the pains in my hand are where i wake up with my hands so stiff and they sometimes are clenched for awhile when i wake up and they hurt to slowly pull them apart. i would suggest you get it checked out by your rheumatologist...keep us posted and hope the swelling goes away!
