If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

This may be a taboo subject but I was wondering how many of you have had your sex life affected by AS. Seems like something I used to do all the time is now something I only do every now and then. Now that I am taking enbrel I feel fine physically and am eager to partake. But before enbrel I hurt so bad for so long that it was just not worth the pain and effort. It seems that we (my wife and I) just got out of the habit of enjoying sex. Now that I am feeling good and ready my wife seems to show no interest. Well, I don't want to bore you with all of my problems, I am just wondering if anybody else has experienced negative affects from AS on the amount of sex they have.

gday Phil,
sorry things have gotten to the stage they have in that you need the Enbrel. Have you sat down with your wife and talked about it - I know as much as they might try they dont really understand the change you may have gone through - she may be still thinking youre in too much pain or will only cause yourself pain so maybe you could try and sit down and talk about it. Its easy to fall in to patterns and our daily grind doesnt help, but youre probably right, the not having sex can be as much a habit as having it.
Chin up mate .. have a chat to her.

There is a men's forum for men only, and one for women only, PM an admin and have them subscribe you (they are closed otherwise and not visible if you're not subscribed and only an admin can do this for you).
I'm not intimidated by your question at all, but you may feel freer to discuss men's issues with other men, therefore, my brother, I make this suggestion...
Blessings, Sigrid

hello, and yes i have the problem also, i hurt so bad it is very hard to do alot of things. it helps so much if u have a partner that understands. sounds like your wife does.my best advice would be to, in sorts start over again. i dont know if that makes since. i wish u the best of luck.talk to her and let her know just how u feel and go from there.

Hi Phillip-
We do have a Men's Forum, but I can tell you that AS screwed up my love life in several relationships, before and after I was diagnosed....crazy...but it happened...those women are no longer with me for reasons other than AS, but that was a factor for sure....
Now I'm also on Enbrel, a lifesaver in many ways, hope it lasts without bad side effects...I feel like I'm 25 again, and I'm 42 (who felt 80 before this), if that gives you a hint...nudge, nudge, wink, wink....ok...
I am not in a serious relationship so cannot comment really on you and your wife, I hope that you both realize how Enbrel can put you into remission and stop the progression, so you can both enjoy each other..
Peace Linc

Hi Phillip
I have given you access to the mens forum if you have a problem getting in that forum please let me know. If you would like I can move your post into the mens forum where you might get more replies from other men on the site. Let me know.

Thanks to everybody who took the time to reply. I will try to talk to her about this (as soon as I get the nerve). John thanks for the link to the men's only forum. I will check it out. I'm sorry, I really did not think of this as a "mens only" issue. I was just curious if other people had the same problem related to AS. Thanks again!!!

Hi Phillip,
I hope the men's forum may offer you some additional input, but please know your post was certainly welcome here on the main forum also. It's an important subject that effects both sexes for sure, and most of us have been challenged at some point with AS pain making intimacy more tricky at times... even with things like simply receiving a hug.
With some of us women, one way to turn this sort of pattern around could be as easy as paying attention during non-intimate times. Talking, holding hands, hugs or a simple touch can mean alot and might help to set a new direction.
My best to you,
mig

Someone once posted an article from the Arthritis Foundation about keeping a healthy sex life with arthritis.
