If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hiya,
I've been catching up on outstanding jobs, first off being transfering between old GP and new one, but had to stop this because of continutuy whilst the disabilty pension process gets unfouled.
So I just got the copy of the MTX blood tests from the beginning of this year for the old GP and the rheummy and.................
Moderate Neutraphilia, and mild leukocytosis, seems to be trending down whilst the MTX goes up and I eat the local farmers out of youghurt and drink the local restaurants dry of miso.
My concern is that I'm improving in one aspect the big D and inflammation down low but higher up this is seeming more and more like mega colon...From the illness chills etc and the very abrupt nasty flares in the spine etc, I'm not doing that well at all. The pain meds are not that effective and I've been trying to limit them so I can differentite between normal C and drug induced C.....not much difference...
Any help advice on this would be muchly appreciated!
Things at home are very much settled, the children like the new setup, and their school seems better than the last one in many respects.....
David

Hi David,
My Neutraphils where always high even when my AS was bad or good until I started on Infliximab and for the first time ever they are normal. When you go for your Pension get your doctor to include "Moderate Neutraphilia, and mild leukocytosis" every little bit helps.

Hiya, hiya, hiya, davo Glad to see that you have returned to the fold. You may want to investigate further the roles of those two different types of blood cells. Nonetheless, when I look on my charts that area is labelled: "Here, there be dragons." If you figure out the relationship between neutrophils and leukocytes vis a vis spondyloarthropathy and inflammatory bowel disease, then there probably is a Nobel prize in Medicine awaiting you. Best regards, the old sea

Neutrophils are phagocytic white cells so they are increased when the body needs to fight off an infection of bactreial nature. Lymphocytes will be increased in a viral infection. The MTX probably has your bone marrow suppressed and your total white cell count is likely low or in the low range of normal. You should be careful at this point as should you be exposed to an infection you may not be able to fight it off.A small variation from normal is usually not diagnostically important. Hope this helps. Ottis

Hi, The way it was explained to me is that neurophiles "dive into" an inflamed area and poison and eat all foreign bodies in it. Sort of kamakazi cells that head into inflamed regions. They become what is known puss, in sores. The white blood cells (leukocytes) play a big role in regulating immune function, produce antibodies, kill invading cells, produce cytokines (like tumor necrosis factor, which in the enbrel target) and recognize dangerous proteins in the blood. When stimulated, they multiply like crazy, which is why infections are accompanied by high leukocyte counts. In MHO the leukocytes are much more suave, as diving into infections and turning into puss is usually considered tacky AlaskaRon Other info: http://medweb.bham.ac.uk/http/mod/3/1/a/neutrophils.html

Ron, very nice description, here is a modification according to my understanding:. leukocyte = white blood cell. neutrophil is a type of white blood cell, so it is a also subcategory of leukocyte. Lymphocyte is a different subcategory of leukocyte. your description of "leukocytes" as regulating immune function, produce antibodies, kill invading cells, produce cytokines ... that description would refer to lymphocytes.

Neutrophils are one type of leucocyte. They are sometimes also called segs or polys(polymorphonuclear segmented neutrophils) and are sometimes referred to as pus cells. Lymphoctytes are another type of leucocyte are the ones that are involved in cytokines, antibody production, etc.
