Hey everyone, I had "quite the day" today....

Although my Enbrel shipment has not happened and I have not had a shot in a week, I'm doing ok and today met my family in Central Park for...brunch at Tavern On The Green! Oh yeah, oysters, Bloody Marys, eggs benedict...then a nice walk, and on to the Natural History Museum to meet friends and look at dinosaur bones...then, into the park to birdwatch, where I ran into friends and saw many warblers and a scarlet tananger...bright orange, very cool...then, over to hawk watch at the Conservatory Pond, to check out the world's most famous hawk, Pale Male (has his own website), and then home to meet friends and eat tons of sushi....belly full, no joint pain, and now there's basketball on the tube, and life is good but for the woman I dig, but hey, it'll happen or it won't and I'll rock on...

my neck is stiff but since on Enbrel I go to the gym (last night) so that could be it...

Peace
Linc

Linc,

Sounds like you had a rockin day..lol

I have been to New York only twice, but I loved it!

My husband and I want to come back, I told him it would be great to go when they get the memorial for 9/11.

We live in Oklahoma and have the OKC memorial and it is breathtaking. They still have pieces of the fence up with thousands of notes, stuffed animals and trinkets from all over the world.

When you go there at night and see the 168 chairs lit up....I still can't go there without crying.

We didn't know anyone personally who was killed, but the picture of Baylee Almon and the firefighter that was shown around the world looked like he was holding my daughter Tori. Tori and Baylee were the same age and their birthdays were just 1 week apart. I still can not look at that picture without coming unglued. Tori is 11 now, it is still hard to believe that it has already been 10 years since it happened.

When that happened, we thought it was about the worst thing that could have happened.

That was until we saw 9/11. I still can't talk about it without crying.

How are the people of New York handling the aftermath? Do New Yorkers seem alot more guarded now? When we were there we went up on top of the twin towers, I remember how scared I was thinking if I were to fall, I don't think any of us can ever imagine the horror those people went thru that day, God Bless all their Souls.

Sorry, didn't mean for this to turn into a book.

How was the sushi, I keep trying to get my family to try it, they are all like yea...right..lol

Linc, I might have to fly to New York sometime just so I have someone to have sushi with..lol

I am so glad you had a wonderful day, you deserve it!

Lisa

Is a "scarlet teenager" a kid who's been in Central Park on a sunny day too long?

How on earth can you play basketball on the tube?

Loz,

"The Tube" is American slang for television. I tried to find the origins of the meaning but was unsuccessful... there is sometimes a word placed in front of "Tube".... will need to check out the link (under Synonym)for that.

My father would use "Idiot Box" quite a bit for televsion if my brother and I watched too much growing up.... but he used the other phrase quite a bit as well.

In my family, the telly is known as `the haunted fish tank`
My family are very eccentric. We all drink far too much than is probably good for us.

Hey Tim,

Are you hinting that the "other phrase" would not be allowed by KickAS's list of naughty words?

That other word that rhymes with "tube" was initially used as another word for 'nitwit' or 'fool'. It isn't a naughty word.

I didn't finish what I meant to say about why the TV became the Tube.

The main important part of the TV is the picture tube where the various colours are emitted and displayed on the inside of the front of the picture tube. It was likely that the meaning of the word tube was also borrowed and used for naming the numerous tubes inside a radio and it wasn't long before radios were tubeless.

TV's still have picture tubes. What better nickname for them!

Hi Tim

Will get a bit nerdy here

As George mentioned, the tube is the big glass thingy in the TV, that's displaying the picture. "Old fashioned" TV:s are often referred to as crt-TV:s, where crt stands for cathode ray tube (and the "new fashion" are the plasma and LCD, flat-TV:s).

End of nerd transmission

Hey Mattias,

A real nerd would have gone on for at least ten pages.
