Hi Ken,

Good luck on trying to create a new little life!

I would ask your Drs. asap!

I know that if you are trying, your wife should be on pre-natal vitamins, and it is VERY importent that she gets enough FOLIC ACID.

Less is better, but sometimes there are some drugs we have to take. There is a long list of drugs that can harm the baby/cross with breast milk, so you need a professional opinion.

Good luck!

Lisa

Ken:

I would check with your doc in regards to the NSAID- Celebrex. My infertility doc told me my NSAID was interfering with ovulation of the egg.

My advice to you would be to see an Infertilitiy Specialist.

Good luck!!

Shari

Since Doc's are just now becoming aware of the serious side effects ---like life thrreatening ones--of med's like Vioxx I doubt that any comprehensive study of folks who are taking long term any NSAID actually exist when it comes to the issue of effect on male potency.

I am quite sure it affected my life since I was taking megadoses since I was a teen. No proof .

Follow your gut. Ask your Doc and be skeptical. SOmebodymakes lot of oney off those med's and they'd likeyou to believe they are absolutely user friendly.

Ken : 11 years ago ,I was on Oruvail ,the time released version of Orudis. At 40 I thought I might be sterile but we had a healthy boy in the oven a week before I was scheduled for a vasectomy.I thought I was too old and in too much pain, but Frank was a Godsend , a real purpose for living and I would not change history if I was given the chance. He keeps me young in a way and it was meant to be! The NSAID drugs did eventually get to my kidneys after years of use and had to quit all of them.

Ken,

I have been diagnosed with AS for 10 years. I have been on Indomethacin since diagnosis. I have a a 4 1/2 year old boy that is a typical healthy boy. I have been on Sulfasalazine for almost 3 years. I was exrememly worried about being on it when we decided to try for a second child. My doctors told me it may cause problems by reducing my potency and in women it can cause a termination of pregnancy. We decided to give it a try and are now the proud parents of a healthy 11 month old baby girl. I will tell you that I was nervous up until the day she was born that the sulfasalazine would cause problems. In reality no studies have been done on how these drugs affect men trying to contribute to conception. They were all focused on the females.

I hope this helps,

Trevor

Hi Ken

celebrex is fine with regards to conception. Hugh and I conceived latest addition (who is now 11 months - wow) whilst he was taking 200mg a day.

You do have to be careful with DMARDs though, for example he wasn't allowed to try Sulfasalazine when we were aiming to conceive as it temporarily leads to male inferitility, and since our daughter's birth the methotrexate is a no-conception drug

HTH

Take care
Justine
