If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Hi, Found this article from the BBC website. Think most of us would have heard that fish oils help reduce inflammation...well, this is another study that should motivate us to try it out (recommended dosage is 1500mg fish oil capsules per day). The article also points out the potential pitfall of COX-2 inhibitors. BBC News: Oily Fish Helps Cut Inflammation

Aerial,
Thanks for the article.
I have been having the hardest time having to stay on prednisone.
I think I might try this, it doesn't sound like it could hurt.

Hi All, I took Omega 3 fish oil years ago when my feet were so painful and swollen, and after six weeks the inflammation left. I am back on my fish oil, becasue my stomach can't take anymore NSAIDS right now. The big benifit is also for your heart and decreasing cholestrol levels. It is inexpensive and now after 15 years I finally have Rheumatologists encouraging me to take it!
Best of Luck, Janet

Janet, And, here I thought that the big benefit was the fishy burps. Just a reminder to KickASers, not all fish oil capsules are created the same... Caveat EmptorA previous thread in Alternatives mentioned those sources that seemed reliable. Best regards, jcwinnie

There is also evidence that fish oil helps prevent NSAID-related tummy problems.

AND, if you don't eat fish, the next best sorce of omega 3's is flax seed oil...it has more than borage oil or evening primrose oil...you can get 1 gram pills or the oil and add a teaspoon to soups or drinks...a teaspoon has several grams of oil...
It's helped me and I take it fairly regularly, although I could still flare from time to time even on supplements and NSD....I don't use it as much while on the Enbrel, but the omega 3's have other benefits so taking them is a good thing...
Peace Linc

One thing though; diabetics might want to monitor their blood sugar extra closely after starting fish oil. My sister was on fish oil capsules for Crohn's, but had to stop since they raised her blood sugar too much (she has Type 1 Diabetes as well). It's not too common, but it is possible.

What is the difference between capsules and taking fish oil in liquid form? I have been on 1 tablespoon/day of cod liver oil since November. It is orange flavoured and I take it with a morning protein shake.
Does anyone know how to compare the dosage? Or which one is more effective?
Thanks,
Trevor

So I actually just did a huge literature review on fish oil. It turns out that the Omega-3's found in fish oil, EPA and DHA, are not found in flax seed oil. The omega-3's in flax seed oil can be converted by the body to EPA and DHA but this conversion rate is only 1%. Thus, you would have to take 100 times more flax oil than fish oil to get the same effect.
Evening Primrose Oil is actually richer, if I recall, in omega-6 fatty acids, which are pro-inflammatory.
Some studies have been done using a single-cell (algae) derived source of EPA and DHA, but I haven't found any of these supplements commercially.
Thus, based on the information I have, if you can't do fish oil for whatever reason, know there is currently no evidence or information to support flax oil as an effective antiinflammatory.
As a side-note, high-dose fish oil is also anti-depressant.

Thanks for posting this. I had heard this, actually. One book I've read suggests that you ensure it's pharmaceutical fish oil, in order to be certain of its quality and recuperative benefits.
Hugs,
Kat
