Hiya Mrs Cheerful,

Makes me wonder about all the COX2 drugs the heart issues were raised a few years back I remember reading some of the Cardio's thoughts on supressing COX2 in 2001-2 even in Time magazine last year.....

I hope you make a full recovery and please look after yourself, things have away of working out if you find the time and the gentle way. If you drive yourself too hard you will get worse.

Say big helo to John, wondered why he was n't lurking as much......

Speedy Health!

David

Hi, Joanne, so nice to see you posting, you gave us all quite a scare

Yep, right on target with the Bextra, my rheumy will no longer prescribe Bextra, Celebrex or Vioxx until there is a whole lot more information. I had an unfortunate experience with Celebrex, my BP went from a comatose level (well, 110 over 65) to a soaring 190 over 90. And I was only on it a short time! Thank heavens there were symptoms (pounding headache, racing heart) particularly evident when I was exercising. I discontinued the Celebrex but now have to use BP meds to control the BP (called exercise induced high BP, physical exertion brings it on, which of course with AS means I can't quit exercising, hence the meds to allow me to do so). Coincidence? Hmmm. The only thing that changed in my life back then was taking Celebrex, and it happened very quickly. So I wasn't exactly surprised when the news broke about this class of drugs. So all of you out there, heed Joanne's (and my) warning, be very cautious with this class of meds and monitor your BP if you are taking any one of them. And keep in mind that these drugs are really no more effectivs than aspirin or any other NSAID, just allegedly easier on the tummy, not enough in my opinion to risk a heart attack/stroke. And especially if you smoke or have any other risk factors!

Give a hug to John from me - - and also one for you

Cheryl

What a shock. I know what you are talking about, I had an MI back on 14 March 2000 had an agioplasty a week later and it took a couple of months to get over it, before I could get back to work and a semi normal way of life. It shook up all our lifes here at home, but with the love of them all things got better and I am now free of the spray, have not had to carry that with me for a couple of years, at the time of my MA my cholestrol was at 10.4, (normally should be about 4.8) so if any one is worried about there hearts or cholestrol, go see a Dr before this happens to you.
Glad to here you are back on the road to recovery, I am sure that John being the loving husband he is will be doing all he can to see you are kept in the manner to which you deserve, even if it is causing him extra pain.

Stay Well
Paul

Joanne,

I'm so sorry to hear about things, but glad you are doing better. I didn't read the post at first, because I don't take Bextra, so I'm sorry this is tardy. You and John will now definitely be in my thoughts. I hope you continue to get better and get back to normal really soon.

Hi Joanne

I am so sorry to hear about everything that you are going through. If no one deserves this it is you guys.

Kick back and let John take care of you for a while, but please dont let him over do it either.

Take care both of you.

Hi Joanne

I am so sorry that I havn't been of any help for you. I have definatly been thinking of you - over and over. I really pray that you are on the mend and will never ever have a scare like that again.
I have been in the Big TO all week helping Sarah and Steph with new Baby Jane.
I am so thrilled to be able to do this for them. I'll stay as long as they need me but will be returning for some days of work in between .

Again. I am sorry not to have been helping you out. I really feel badly about this and I truly truly hope things will look up for the two of you.
Look after yourselves and try to keep your chins up.

HUGS
Maggie

Hi all,

Just want to thank everyone for your replies - much appreciated. John is still taking really good care of me - I tire easily so can't do much yet - hopefully I'll be back to normal in a few months - until then, I'll try to relax, forget about work and take my meds!!!

To answer some of the questions, I believe Bextra had alot to do with the heart attack but am getting my blood checked as well as the Cardiologist seems to think there may be something wrong as I also had blood clots to my lungs (thrombosis) when I was 27 - I was on birth control at that time. As for smoking, it probably contributed to it but I find it odd that at these two major illnesses I was taking pills????? Just a thought but will ask the Doc about it.

Again, thanks for your wishes and thanks to John I get to laugh everyday! He is a sweetheart!!!!
