Hi all,

I have benefitted so much from KickAS and I think it's only right that I contribute a little back I know this should be posted at the "Alternatives Forum" but I hope more could benefit if it's posted here.

Not sure if anyone has heard or tried this before - taking golden raisins soaked in gin. It's a 'home remedy' for arthritis.

Just place the raisins (they must be golden raisins) in a bowl and pour the gin over them. Leave them uncovered for about a week or so (until the gin is absorbed by the raisins). When they're done, place them in a container and take 9 of these raisins 2 times every day. It'll take around 5 weeks for the effects to be seen.

I was pretty sceptical but then I told myself there's no harm trying since it's NOT MEDICATION (I hate NSAIDs!). Have taken them for almost 3 weeks now. For me, it took about 2 weeks for the effects to be seen. There's definitely less pain and I can move about more...and hey, they taste pretty good too! It's part of my 'staple diet' now.

Hope you could just try this out. I can't gurantee that it'll help your AS but it certainly helps mine. Good luck!

You know, Aerial, there are several of us here who enjoy gin. Especially Bombay Sapphire. Hmmmm. Sapphire on golden raisins. Might have to try that just for the taste sensation.

Seriously, keep us posted on whether the positive effects continue, OK? I'm always curious to find out these things. Where did you find this one?

Keep on munching.

Hugs,

Kat

Nice, simple, harmless, and tastes good too... why not give it a shot eh ! :-). Do you think it will work if I put a small cloth over them ?? Just to keep out the fruit flies, roaches and all.

I am doing very nicely, but I still keep an eye out for anything that will improve my tolerance to grains, nuts, and legumes. I really would like to be able to put them permanently back in my diet, but the agonising pain just isn't worth it.

cheers for the tip

Does it matter which kind of gin? It might in fact be the Juniper berries in the gin that are helping out, in which case the type of gin shouldn't matter much.

Since I am pretty clueless about gin, I typed into google: define:gin
and this is what I got :
===============================================
An unaged liquor using of distillates from barley, corn, or rye, and juniper berries. London dry gin is colorless. Hollands gin is a Dutch gin that tastes very different from other gins because of its large proportion of barley malt.
www.nutribase.com/beverage.shtml

Is a juniper berry flavored spirit. There are 2 types of gin: dry gin and geneva gin. They taste quite different from each other.

Hi Zark,

Hmmm...don't think it's advisible to put a cloth over them because the purpose of leaving it for a week is to let the gin evaporate.

The recipe recommended Gordon's London Dry Gin. I bought just that

hi folks, as I already posted : Gin is flavoured using juniper berries. I bought some juniper berries about a week ago and have been making a tea out of it since then. Seems to be working !

For instance last night I went out to eat at an indonesian restaurant and decided to have some satay and also some kind of asian sausage. Both the satay and sausage are not safe for NSD due to peanuts in the satay sauce and also because manufacturers normally put flour in sausages as a filler. I was not at all surprised when I started to have trouble sleeping half way through the night. So I drank some tea made from juniper berries and uva ursi (bearberry), went back to sleep and slept very well. Also woke up in almost no pain.

I am wondering if this will bring long lasting relief however since so many of the natural remedies I have tried only gave short lived relief (eg: ginkgo, bromelain, ginger, essential oils)

btw, I had an auxiliary reason for wishing to use the juniper berries and the uva ursi.. I have had troubles with cystitis
