Hi,

I've seen this related to Chron's a few times in the past. But not all GI'sts accept it.

However:

It is a gram-negative species.
BCG modified to battle bladder cancer also is known to trigger SpA

When I do a timeline of sudden worsening and relate vacinnations back into, BCG (A form of TB Vaccination used in the UK) which is a myco' strain occurs just a few weeks before.

One theory is that the gram negatives produce lippo sacharicides (spelling?) and these trigger the immune system.

David,

I have seen these substances referred to as lipopolysaccharides, e.g., Lipopolysaccharide tolerance in murine peritoneal macrophages.

Past research on the Leaky Gut Syndrome has focussed on "tight junctions", i.e., how well the cells on the surface of the gut fit together. I am hopeful that more research about the role of Peyer's patches will lead to a better understanding of the disease process. Transplantation research may have related payoffs in the treatment of spondyloarthropathies and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Dr. Galland suggests that monitoring the intestinal permeability of chronically ill patients can help improve clinical outcomes.

Best regards,

jcwinnie

hi,

TRIGGERS AND MEDIATORS OF THE LEAKY GUT
Leaky Gut Syndromes are usually provoked by exposure to substances which damage the integrity of the intestinal mucosa, disrupting the desmosomes which bind epithelial cells and increasing passive, para-cellular absorption. The commonest causes of damage are infectious agents (viral, bacterial and protozoan) [43-46], ethanol [47, 48], and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs [20, 49, 50]. Hypoxia of the bowel (occurring as a consequence of open-heart surgery or of shock) [51, 52], elevated levels of reactive oxygen metabolites (biliary, food-borne or produced by inflammatory cells) [53], and cytotoxic drugs [54-56] also increase para-cellular permeability.

seems to me that the researchers are on to it and maybe soon we will get some really specific treatments......

David
