Well, just like Jeremy, I finally got a new job too!!
Thought I'd bring everybody up to speed. Last time I posted, I had just lost my job after I had some rather heated words with my boss (jerk). We were starting to have some pretty rough times here lately, but I had put about 25 resumes / applications out there. Had several bites and even worked for one day at another place (will go into that later). I was finally called by the local Wal-Mart over a week ago. They had me take a drug test and go through 3 separate interviews before they finally "hired" me. I even took the drug test a week ago and passed that, but they still haven't called me to give me my schedule. In the mean time, one of the places I had put in a resume to a couple weeks ago called me 2 weeks ago for a first interview. That went well and they said that if they wanted to pursue it any further they would give me a call. This past Wednesday they called me back and wanted me for another interview. When I went, the guy said it was between me and another couple of guys. That interview went well and I sensed they liked me, but he said it would be maybe another week before I heard anything. Meanwhile I was faced with the dilema of "what do I do if / when Wal-Mart calls?" Between me and my wife, we decided that I would take the job at Wal-Mart even if it was just on a temporary basis. They still haven't called back, but Inspec (my new job) called me back yesterday, just one day after the last interview and told me the job was mine and asked me if I could start today. So the long & short of it is that as of today, I'm employed again. I'm also making about double or more from what I would have made at Wal-Mart. Inspec is a small contract inspection service company. Local automotive parts manufacturers will hire them out to do CMM inspection service. Business has been picking up and they wanted to add more people. My new title will be as an "Applications Engineer". Once I get sufficient training, I will be going out to other companies around the area and probably around the country to do inspection work. They want me to do a lot of the travel since not many people want to stray from the office. There has been quite a bit of travel lately. One of the guys has just got back a week ago from Tijuana, Mexico. As soon as he got back, they sent another guy out to Green Bay, Wisconsin. I think traveling for a while will be ok, but will most likely get kind of old after a while. My boss asked me what I thought about traveling extensively and I told him that I'm willing to do it but wouldn't want to be gone every day of every week and just be home on the weekend. He said that wouldn't be a problem. We'll see.
Anyway, my first day went well. I like the job so far and they seem to like me. Hopefully it'll be a benefit for all. It sure is nice to be employed again. Now if I can just hole out for that first paycheck........
Take care,
Glenn
