If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

Iam back from vacation. " You are doing very good! Just continue what you are doing" That was what my rheumy told me today! I see a lot of change myself. Just four months back I could not walk. Heavy pain! I was severly vitamin D deficient! I requested my rheumy, vit D prescription. Instead he prescribed me Remicade and I decided not to go for it till I resolved vit D issues! I was diagonized with Ankylosing Spondylitis about 6 years back.!!! My first AS symptoms started in lower 20's. Today life is totally different! I run upstairs! I teach my young kids ride bike. I lift my kids and they touch the ceiling! I Sneeze! No pain in ribs!!! Sunlight helped me kick AS!!!!! totally!!! Now I have no disease activity! Lesson: Friends! Don't ignore severe vitamin D deficiency! I think, UVB from sunlight is very important to some people.. Question: Is there any way I can contribute to medical research for ankylosing spondylitis? Any non-profit/govt. organizations? Appreciate any contacts etc., ( My website: Lack of exposure to sunlight is the root cause of my ankylosing spondylitis. Sunlight burned my ankylosing spondylitis. Sunlight can be deadly and can cause skin cancer, sun stroke etc.,. Safe limits are different for different people. Friends! Don't ignore severe vitamin D deficiency! I think, UVB from sunlight is very important to some people)

Hi Krishna,
It's great to hear from you again. Was wondering how things were going. Sounds as if you've found what works for you. Am pleased that you are pain-free and doing things with your kids. Excellent !

You know, that's funny, my mom, who has RA, was just saying yesterday that she's heard that the big news lately is that they think vit D deficency is a contributor to RA.....interesting. Unfortunately, I take an excellent vitamin supp., love milk and eat lots of fortified yogurt...plus, every waking minute as a kid I spent outside. My parents had to drag me in after dark. But it could still be a cause, just not for all. Glad to hear you are doing so well. Keep it up!! :) Aimee &Family1.jpg) Scott, Aimee, Hallie, Caitlyn and Gabriel children1.jpg)

Great for you the sun has made you pain free. Mike's condition being cronic, with his medications he cannot be in the sun. Living in Arizona, that is imposible, he is very careful not to be exposed too long at a time.
Take Care,
Maxine

I too heard about the Vitamin D deficiency from my rheumy. However the problem is not that we are not getting enough sunlight. He said the Mayo clinic found that people who have chronic muscle pain, such as with fibromyalgia have been found to be severely deficient in vitamin D even those living in the sunbelt. Every one of the people they tested were low. They seemed to be unable to either get enough D in their diet or their bodies were not able to manufacture enough from exposure to sunlight. They needed a prescription dose to see any results. I have been found to be deficient and am now on a high dose of D. I get my level tested in another week as it is a fat soluble vitamin and it is possible to overdo it. My doc says it usually takes 2 - 3 months to see results so it will be awhile before I know if it is helping. I did a little research and found that the acceptable dose of Vitamin D per day is, I think, 2,000 I.U. My dose is 50,000 I.U. once a week. I have no idea how low my level is but will be asking my doc the next time I see him. I have been reading on the web that low D is suspected in MS and RA as well. I am holding out hope that this works and I can get off of all of these meds. It would be nice to put something somewhat natural into my body for a change. I will let everyone know if this works or at least helps. Less pain is always good. :-) Christina

Hi Aimee, After finding vit d deficiency ( low 25(OH) D) I tried the best vit d supplements in the market. They did not help at all... Only sunlight helped .... I guess sunlight is more than just vit D.
Hope you are doing well. Rgds., Krishna

Hi Christina, Like I said earlier, when I found out low 25(OH)D, I tried best vit D supplements ( recommended by Dr. Mercola ) for say 1-2 months at doses of say 2000-3000. They did not help me at all. Absolutely no decrease in disease activity. Only sunlight helped me . Earlier I was mining pubmed for the impact of UVB on humans and its pretty interesting .... there's more to sunlight than just vitamin D ... For me vit D decificeny is just one symptom of not exposing to sunlight ??????? Right now things are very hectic for me in office ... more later I wish you all the best. Rgds., Krishna Edited by krishna on 08/04/04 07:23 PM (server time).

Christina,
I was tested two weeks ago for low D. My level was 10, the Doc likes it to be at least 35. He also put me on 50,000 IU once a week for 8 weeks, and then we'll check and see where it stands. It is exciting to think that something so simple could make a big difference.
BTW I also live in the NW. They say our incidence of MS is one of the highest in the nation. If it is D related that would be an awesome breakthrough.
Kirst.
