The weather is great, so my little dog and I went for a leisurely drag, when I came home I felt as if I had been kicked in the crutch, it still hurts at the inside top of my right leg (the worse leg anyway), come on, any suggestions?

leisurely drag....you must have a big dog....you could have strained a few muscles this time ot some tendons while on your drag put ice on it if it dont go away go see your GP...what kind of dog do you have I got 2 lab mixes I dont take them for walks anymore because of the drag they give me...I made a 60ftx90ft fenced area for them to run around in.....hope the leg gets better.......oak

many thanks for your response.

its only a small dog, a king charles cavalier spaniel 6 month pup, but he doesnt like going out very much, he'd rather sit on his rear in the cottage or in the garden and just take in the air and chill out. so I have to drag him about. he only weight 5 kilos, but hes as obstinate as sin.
I will go and see the gp next week, as I have meetings every day this week and the AS isnt going to go away is it?
I will take your advice and fill my inner leg with ice, what a sight that will be! and hopefully it wont be so bad tomorrow.

Janet, does it feel like joint or muscle strain? My hamstrings are sore as hell right now, but I can tell (for once) that it's muscular. Did alot this weekend and worked those thighs something fierce.

Hmmm, icing your crotch. Well, easier on us I guess than on the guys.

Hugs,

Kat

thanks for asking, they are fine now thank heavens I am no longer walking like a constipated John Wayne., but I had a real scare last night my hands and arms got very swollen and I was covered from head to foot in a rash, which has gone now. Apparently when I was dragging my dog around the other day I may have brushed against a toxic plant of some sort and it was a late allergic reaction. So it looks like I will be getting a treadmill for the dog now.

I am about to go into a meeting to try and stop the closure of a 'people with learning disabilities home', its one of those meetings where we will give it our all, yet know as we walk in the door we will lose, as we are in the minority.
So think of me in about an hour when I will be in full vocal thrust in the council chamber.

Look after yourself.

Hi Janet,

Groin pain is also a sign of hip inflammation. The tendon that inserts into the hip bone becomes inflammed and the pain radiates to the groin.

It is common in AS patients. If you had this only once or only ever once in awhile then there is nothing to worry about. If this comes back and stays for an extended period of time, then you should talk to you rheumy about it.

You could have just overdone it a little on your walk! It could have been a muscle issue or referred pain from the hip joint. Oh don't stop walking the dog!!!!! It is good for the both of you to be outdoors and exercising. (I just love Cavilier St. Charles dogs. I have a Whippet. She loves to walk but also loves to run in our big park. Thank god she is trained to come back to me. I don't think I could catch her when she is running at full speed. 35.5 mph!!)

I have a BIG dog, a borzoi, checks in at 120 pounds, but yep, we don't go for a walk, I have to drag his lazy butt off the couch and out the front door. He is a couch potato totally, always has been, exercise he views as a form of torture dreamed up by unbalanced humans to torment hapless dogs who prefer to sleep 23 hours a day, leaving one hour free for eating and elimination.

Inner leg muscles don't get worked as much as other muscles in our daily activities, at the gym I have to do specific exercises for this area (usually involving weight machines) to keep the jiggle away. However, I sometimes get pain right where my leg intersects with my hip, and the rheumy says it's pain from from the hip, so might get it checked out if it persists. Mine is not progressing AS but rather overdoing exercise (Doing the breast stroke in the pool, with my legs doing a sort of frog kick, if I do too many laps this way I feel it high up on my inner leg), so far my hips are okay.
