OK, so now the doc thinks I have IBS (the diagnosis of exclusion). My upper GI results came back normal and the colonoscopy I had last May revealed nothing except hemorrhoids. Does anyone know how fast Ulcerative Colitis can come on? Is it possible that since I had the colonoscopy done that it has developed?

I'm going on vacation for a week on Saturday and I don't want to feel like this. I have an appointment with a GI doc but not until March 24, so I am hoping that the wealth of knowledge of the KickAS members can help.

Since I do have all the classic symptoms of IBS, I'd be anxious to hear from anyone out there who suffers from this and would appreciate any advice on how to minimize the symptoms (diet, supplements, natural remedies, etc.)

I'm going to call my rheumy and ask for his advice as well.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi, Steve:

It is Carol Sinclair's NSD that totally relieved her IBS and prevented all symptoms of AS.

Good luck with the diet, and have a great vacation!

Hiya,

Was diagnosed with IBS from 88 to 98, best thing was avoiding starch foods.........careful with alcohol, curries, coffee.

In 98 diagnosed with colitis by scopes, previously the symptons of colitis had been dismissed as haemorroids.

Haemorroids until I forced a scope again in 2002.........lot of trouble with it's AIYH etc

If I want servere GI symptons, just take nasids.

If your joints get more sore/stiff achey when the IBS is active you know there is a direct link.

Good Luck, if diet works it is the best answer!

I was dxd in my very early 20's. I was given peppermint oil pills, and told to eat lots and lots of fibre. Neither worked for me.

I'd advise you to keep a record of what you ate/or done the days you suffer the worst symptoms, so you can build a bigger picture.

These are the things I do to help me personally,

I dont drink milk
I drink loads of water
I exercise/keep active
Avoid spicy/strong foods
Avoid excessive alcohol (wish I could have it, but I'm pregnant lol)
Keep stress levels low
Eat small frequent meals as opposed to '3 a day'

All the best

Amber
