Wayne,
I didn't make it there, but maybe in the future. In 2000 I travelled to Bangkok, Pattaya (dirty old town) and Ko Samet, not far off the shores of Pattaya. Spent 2 weeks on the beach reading, swimming, tossing the football and drinking beer. I've heard that it has changed a lot since then. I've since gotten married and the trips abroad have been limited. I've also done Cambodia, which if you haven't done, you should do, considering how close you are. Ankor Wat was amazing.
I haven't had the suction cups done, but I have seen it done on tv many times. There are clinics everywhere that do it.
Eric

Yes, I have been to Angkor Wat, I was amazed at the size, and the number of temples. We spent about 5 days in Angkor Wat. And the moat around the main temple was so wide.

Take Care
Wayne

I believe the suction cup therapy refered to above it called Interferential Therapy. That was my first brand of treatment before I was even diagnosed 10 years ago.

Interferential current is essentially a deeper form of TENS. In essence, IFC modulates a high frequency (4000 Hz) carrier waveform with the same signal produced by a TENS unit. The high frequency carrier waveform penetrates the skin more deeply than a regular TENS unit, with less user discomfort for a given level of stimulation. Deep in the tissues, the carrier waveform is cancelled out, resulting in a TENS-like signal deep under the skin.

Sounds good doesn't it? However, it didn't help me at all, even though TENS works well for me.

Thanks Loz, for the information.
I just noticed that a few people over here were doing it and I was wondering what it was all about.

I have also seen it done with just regular glasses, is this the same. They either heat the glasses or burn something inside.

Thanks again
Wayne

Hope the acupuncture goes well. It offered me lots of relief in real bad moments. I combine it with massage too although lately only had time for one or the other and I've opted for the massage regularly and occasional maintenance visits with my acupuncturist.

Hi Eric, Wayne and Loz!

The first time I ever had acupuncture I had several of the traditional methods applied pretty aggressively. This was about 10yrs ago and the results were poor for my pain control. I was going at least 2x weekly for a month. Like Wayne I was at a point where I would try anything.

The woman (accupuncturist) that I had was SO confident that she could rid me of my pain. I was open minded about it but didn't trust that statement as I had heard it many times before in the past . Anyway after a month she got very frustrated as I was not any better. I am sure many factors play into this. I do believe timing is everything in life. Although I was open to anything she wanted to try, it could have been many factors involved. My diet, my daily stress level, etc.etc. Also our bodies do change every few (is it 7yrs?) yes?

I have to say I might never have tried it again if my pain doc wasn't trained in it, glad I did though.

So the cupping was her last resort and when she was done I had all these red circles on my neck that wouldn't go away for over 2weeks!!! I wasn't too thrilled about that as it was summertime and swelting out so I couldn't wear a turtleneck or such. Remember hickies anyone? Needless to say as a grown woman in her late 30's I was prepared to hide out for weeks

When you mentioned the smoke it brought back memories of the moxa, what I like to refer to as the cigar that smells good. In the link below there are photos, not sure why they call it smokeless though This web page also has some great photos of the cupping treatment.

I don't remember having what Loz talked about though, sounds like something that might work for me now as I also have good luck with the TENS. Think I'll ask my pain doc about that.

BTW: According to that woman accupuncturist (at that time) I was the first one in all her years of practice that had the cup marks last so long on my neck. Figures She said It pulls the toxins to the surface and I must have had a lot of toxins in my system.

Don't know what she was talkin about.
