Hi,
I can totally identify with the misery of being in pain. I am having a bad flare up today and it definitely puts a downer on the day. I have very recently been diagnosed with this disease - although the doctors are still doing more xrays and MRIs - I seem to have every known symptom - SI joint pain, gut problems, eye inflammation, am positive for HLB27 -and my brother was diagnosed with AS 10 years ago. What more do they need?! it seems to take so long to diagnose.
As far as cures go - my brother is a real power of example to me as he did the no starch diet and it has gone into remission. He said that it took about a year - he says that dairy is the worst - and then too many carbs. He is totally out of pain and has been for about 9 years - he gets twinges if he eats any dairy. I really think that the diet is very effective - but you have to do it properly. I am only on day 6 of it and am really trying. Maybe it worked well for him, because they caught it when he was only 20 - right at the beginning.

Question - Do any of the women find that high heels are a big no-no? I have to wear sneakers to work now as my SI joint pain gets really bad if I wear heels for even 30 minutes.

Also, does anyone else have skin problems? I seem to have mild rosacea and cannot go in the sun.

Sorry if this was really long
thanks
Suz

Hello Donna

I am so sorry your pain is bad right now. I don't know what to say to help you. I can only suggest a hot bath and perhaps get someone to massage you. I find it hard to believe that you have to be in so much pain simply because you cannot afford the medication. This is unheard of in England, the help is there for anyone in need.

It makes me so damn angry.

I wish you well and hope you find some way to be more comfortable.

Hugs

Carol

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so bad. I know what it is like, I too are going through a bit of a rough patch.
The only things I can suggest are a hot bath, or do you have a locally heated swimming pool or hydrotherapy center, if you do, go there and spend most of the day winding down.

If you have only a bath or shower, after the shower rub yourself down with Tiger Balm or Deep Heat and go to bed. Or better still, is there someone who can massage the Tiger Balm in.

Is the weather hot where you are, if it is, try to make your way to a beach, park, nature reserve and relax back and breathe in the fresh air and sun light. Close your eyes and listen to nature. If you are in a cold climate, buy a CD/Cassette with nature sounds, do the hot shower/tiger balm/bed and while you are in bed play the CD/Cassette. And above all relax.

Hope this helps.
Wayne

Donna,

hello you are a long way away, and your medical system is so different from ours, and the one I grew up in.

Perhaps the other guys can help you out with that, I've read posts which refer to safety nets in some states.

Where you hurting, perhaps I can help with that, even improving abit of the pain can help in how you feel and cope with the others.

David

My feet just kill me if I wear high heels. I wear thongs most of the year and then tennies when it gets too cold.
I have really bad skin problems off and on. I am really having a time right now. Nancy

I have porphyria and can not go in the sun. Porphyria is the mother of photosensitivity. And it stinks, big time...........I had more cancer removed today.

Sorry that I don't know what to do for the pain or I'd be doing it myself. If money is an issue there are many companies that will give the drugs to you for free. Ask your doctor about that, and also check for "compassionate use" programs from the internet.

Love to you,
Ellie

Hi Donna

Other than the great suggestions from others, you could try some diet measures or even talk to your doctor. Many have samples of meds and will give you some to last you at least for a short while.

Donna I had to beg my family doctor to give me something for the pain, until I could get into see my rheumy. If you can't afford your meds right now, maybe place a call to your doctor like I did and they could give you something temporarily and possibly some samples that are cost free.

hang in there

Tom
