I was just wondering if everyone else has as much trouble with dentist appointments as I do? I had to get one of my molars capped and after the first visit my mouth was so pissed I was in pain for a week. I got a big sore where my wisdom tooth should be and developed other sores around the ground down tooth itself. So I had one good week and today went in to get the permanent cap put on. I am in so much pain right now I can barely stand it. The dentist says it looks like a nerve for the bottom tooth developed (backwards?). In other words the nerve for the bottom tooth is actually going to the tooth above it. So whenever the bottom tooth hurts I feel it in the upper tooth instead. It's wierd. When I had the sores I had pain in my upper tooth but when I put clove oil on the sores on my lower jaw the upper tooth pain went away. It sucks! I feel so helpless right now. My mouth hurts and my pain meds are wearing out too soon. I should have 4 good hours but instead I am winding up with only 3 and a half. The last half hour is excruciating. It shouldn't hurt this much. It never used to but in the last few years I have found that pain has been amplified for me. I am tired of it.

The sharp pains in my teeth are killing me. I had two caps put on other teeth years ago and had no trouble at all with them. This time however has been a journey through pain. It is sharp and unrelenting. I don't know what to do. Unfortunately some of the teeth around the cap are hurting as well so the upper and lower jaws are hurting on my right side. Going outside in the cold is painful. Talking is painful because it vibrates my teeth. I am going to go out of my mind if it doesn't let up soon. I would even take the worst back pain I have ever had over this. Almost time for my next dose and a few hours of partial relief.

Thanks for listening.

You're not alone!! I have to have IV sedation just for fillings.... My jaw just can't take being wrenched open for more than a few minutes. When I'm knowcked out, though, it relaxes my jaw enough so they can clamp it open w/o resistance.

Sorry to hear of your pain!! Try taking some tylenol just before the pain meds start to wear off... it will rejuvinate the pain meds.

Hugs!

Ouch Stacie......Good idea about the tylenol except my pain meds already have tylenol in them. I DID forget about my muscle relaxers though. I think I may be tensing up my jaw muscles and that might be contributing to my pain. Thank you for the idea to take some other meds.

If I am sounding a little more lighthearted it's only because my latest round of hydrocodone has kicked in and my husband gave me a strong, warm and loving shoulder to cry on. Releasing a little more of this stress has given me some hope that this will not go on forever.

Christina,

I am sorry to here you are in so much pain. I am replying to the part when you said the pain pills are wearing off too soon. When I had pluracy it was wrenching pain and I took the script as perscribed. My wife called the doctor because I was in so much pain in between my doses and they suggested that the script said every four hours but to give me the next pill every 3 1/2 hours. She asked what differance that would make and they told her it takes 30 min for the script to kick in and that way I won't have that in between time of waiting for the next pill to kick in.

I thought about that too scott. I've noticed that it takes almost exactly 20 min for my meds to kick in. If I am still in this much pain tomorrow I am going to call the doc and ask him about taking them sooner.

Thank you for the info. I wasn't sure if I was going to be asking about something unreasonable or not feasible. I don't want to destroy my liver or anything. I also don't want to be in excruciating pain either. I suppose it couldn't hurt too much for the short term. At any rate I will let the doctor decide. So far he has been very receptive to helping me with all of my aches and pains.

Hiya

Feldene gel everywhere is what I do now, gets to places that some meds just can't reach.

Good luck

A tip which may help regarding dentists: I always take a pillow with me to the dentist now as their reclining seats dont let me put me head on anything.
