Hi all!

I did a little test this past week with my Cosamin DS dose. Many of you know I have been taking this supplement since 1997. You know this because I've only mentioned it like oh, maybe, a MILLION times!

OK, so bear with me.

I have been taking 3 pills a day, 2 in the morning, and 1 at night. I knew the manufacturer suggests cutting back to only 2 pills a day after the initial month or two. I had such bad problems with my knees all those years ago that when this stuff started to work I just never messed with it. You know. If it ain't broke...

I know I've been buying time as my Ortho doc told me I would eventually have knee replacement surgery.

So given the fact that my insurance has never and will never pay for this, I thought, after talking to my pain doc that maybe it's time to cut back and save a few pennies here, why not?

Sooo, I did exactly that about a week ago. 4 days ago for no reason, no bumping, no twisting, no unusual joint stress etc. my left knee started to hurt in a way I haven't felt in years. It also was making the old familiar crunching sounds I tried to ignore it but the next day my right knee started to hurt as well! So now, for the first time in years I was having trouble walking up and down stairs and I so desperately needed to vacuum this place! Snort!

I decided the day it hit my right knee to start taking that 3rd pill again. Well, this is the weird part. In less than 24hrs, my knees started to feel better! There was still a small amount of pain but it didn't interfere with my doing stairs. Today the pain is history!

Coincidence? Maybe. But I'm not taking any chances right now. It's 3 pills and not one less! I'm just so relieved that my knees are back to ‘normal’ again. I do plan on putting it to the test again, but only after I get this place cleaned, the cat fur is really flying!

Well, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for your post. It was interesting for me because I have a really bad knee (been sore since age 11yrs). I have been told that I will need a joint replacement sometime soon. What is Cosamin DS? Some sort of supplement? I live in Australia but I guess it is available here. How long have you been taking Cosamin - it sounds very successful.
I manage to work part time but my knee limits me. I can't do any extra walking for fitness or any sort of sport without pain and swelling. I walk with a slight limp and have done for years. I enjoy your posts and admire how positive you are.
Cheers from Debra.

Hi Debra and thanks for your kind words!

Sorry to hear about your knee .
As I have posted a few times about my experiences with it I thought I would just copy the threads for you. I've been on Cosamin a long time, but it seems to work for me with no side effects (that I'm aware of anyway)
I hope it's available where you live if you decide to try it. There are other brands but this is the one my pain doctor recommended and I really trust that guy

Ok, it does look like overkill here . Sorry, but I didn't read through them all, just did a search on "Cosamin DS" and copied my posts for you rather than type it all again.

Hope it's helpful to you!
peace & love
Kathy

Hi Kathryn,
Thanks for your help - yes I have heard of Glucosimine! Right! I have also had surgery on my knee a few times and fluid removed. As I said, I don't do alot of exercise because I have to mind my knee and make it last! Can you do any sort of exercise?? I was admitted to hospital in Perth for an AS physio course over 3 weeks and I managed with most of the stretching exercises but only lasted 5 days with the 1km walk included each day - before my knee blew up to the size of a balloon and I needed rest and a cortisone shot! I have a great big knee brace with metal hinges which was made for me - don't wear it much as it is very heavy and cumbersome. I'm planning to visit the Pharmacy today and buy some Cosamin DS or something like it.
Thanks for the tip!
Love from Debra.

Hi Debra, when did you do the live-in course?
I'm in the current outpatients one...
and attend Monday sessions

I've had success in my knee since using glucosamine, but it made no difference to my shoulder clicks and crunches.

Hi Ted,
Yep I did the live in course at Shenton Park in November 1999. Kathryn was the head physio and I was the only lady in the course! It was great and I really loosened up and got more range with all of the measurements they took. I was unable to do alot of the gym work though because I am fused in some parts of my spine and I also have a fractured verterbra. I enjoyed the hydro workouts and as I have said, I couldn't do any of the walks after day 5 because of my knee. I felt great (except fpr the knee) for a few months afterwards and then I had a big flare in my lower back and was on crutches for weeks. How are you finding the course??? Do they still include the walks and the dreaded "mats"? I was actually booked in for another stay last November but had to cancel. We don't live in Perth, we live up North. I do find it very difficult to exercise without aggravating something!
Cheers from Debra.
