I have PLEURITIS... my doctor says it is common for patients with spondylitis.. she explained that we get calcium deposits along the ribs and they rub against the pleura (lining of the lungs) causing inflammation and infection.. It can cause pockets of fluid or pus to develop.. Nasty, huh?
Anyway, during the exam, my blood pressure was elevated and my breathing was very shallow.. She said I was bearly moving air through my lungs so sent me for a chest X-ray to rule out anything more serious.. She prescribed a 12-day dose pack of prednisone and will see me again in 2 weeks..
So.. my advice to the rest of you who have this problem is go see your doctor... you could have lung problems...

Glad you went it can make you very ill! We should have a set of when to go back to the Dr.s like a sympton list and common associated problems.........
Hope you feel better soon, I know how painful that can be so take it easy!

You are so sweet... That's what I love about this place... Even though others are going through hard times themselves, there's always someone who can offer encouragement and show they care. Thank you.
I have had 2 days of prednisone so far but haven't noticed a huge difference yet. My ribs and shoulderblade are still painful if I move the wrong way and I have to be really careful if I sneeze.. OUCH!! I'm just hoping that this clears up soon...
