If you want to use this QR code (Quick Response code) just save the image and paste it where you want. You can even print it and use it that way. Coffee cups, T-Shirts etc would all be good for the QR code.

I just seem all full of questions these days...anybody out there had to have a disc removed? For some reason, having my neck sliced open just sounds like such a Bad Thing . Laurie

Euw, Laurie, it does sound bad. But I'm pretty sure it isn't, or they wouldn't do it. Right? Good luck with it sweetie. Hugs, Kat

Hi Laurie When I had my neck surgery done they went in from the back of the neck and NOT to scare you it hurt like Hell. i had to have a Halo screwed to my head for 3 months and a body cast. I will tell you it was hell. Now if they go in from the front I was told that it does NOT hurt as much. The neck brace after the surgery is NOT to much fun either. Plus if they go in from the front the scar will be much smaller. See the attachment to see what they put in my neck. John

Well John, it scares me anyhow, but not as much as losing the use of my right arm or worse, which appears to be the alternative. What exactly did you have done, what IS that in there, which disc, and why, if you don't mind me asking? You can reply by PM if you like, or tell me you don't want to talk about it anymore, either... Laurie Do you know what type of disc sugery...For instance Percutaneous discectomy only takes a small incision..If you have had previous neck surgery scar tissue might prevent that...Also if you have any fusion in the c-spine things would be more complicated...Have you had a consultation with the surgeon?? if not ask him what type of proceedure he is doing...Hang in there!!!! John Your x-ray needs no explanation..Seeing all that hardware made my neck hurt just looking at it..I don't think I have what it takes to go through that....Change that to I KNOW I don't have what it takes..Ouch!!!!!! David

Hi David,
How you manage to store so much medical information, I just will never know! You can always be counted on to have really good info on so many kinds of stuff, I think you should get an honorary MD! I haven't had surgery before, but I do have fusion and lesions from MS (which is what probably caused this in the first place). Haven't seen the surgeon yet, but yup, I will definitely ask what's being done. I understand that no matter what kind of surgery, it's a fairly small incision. I don't really care about the cosmetics of it, just want to get FIXED!
Laurie

Laurie Before I got my first computer in 97',I bought tons of books...Anything I could find on backpain,arthritis,auto-immune diseases, alternative healing, books dealing with food and health,PDRs etc...Spent many hours reading back then...Now days it is easier to search the web...But I still go back to the books from time to time for info... The info on disc surgery came out of the book "Back in shape" by Dr Steven Hockschuler of the Texas back institute..Very informative book.. David

Ahhhhhhh!! Books!! You know, for all that the web is an instant source of all kinds of info (good and spurious), I still love nothing better than curling up with a good book Laurie The crisis of today is the joke of tomorrow.

Thanks, Kat...Yah, it sounds pretty yucky to me too, but right now i'd just like the waiting game to be over. Next appointment with neuro on Thursday 9th. Hopefully will have a date for surgery then. Laurie
