I have started the LSD and find I am feeling a lot worse in my affected joints than I was before. I have been following the diet for 3-4 weeks now. I must admit that I have only cut out milk in the last few days as I was wondering if that was the culprit.

I am not eating grains, rice, potato but still having cooked vegetables at this stage (but with summer coming on here in Aus I'll be getting into the salads!). I am also off all my meds at the moment as I am going to try and fall pregnant. I'm really looking for a way to keep my body as pain free as possible whilst I try and fall pregnant.

Did anyone find they got worse before they got better? Or is it just me off my meds for nearly 3 months?

Thanks,
Elaine

Dear Elaine,

I don't have quite similar experience with you cause I choose NSD instead of LSD for the first jump. Also - I include antibiotics and one of them (Cipro) trigger a quite bad flare for me but it's already predicted.

So I truly get worse before I get better but in different way.

I don't think LSD could make you any worse and neither your medication cause you have off medication for 3 months which is quite some time. I can't really say what's going on - you will get the answers from the other, I believe.

Take care,
Sinta

PS: I don't know what people mean with cooked veggie - is stir fry veggie included in this category? Cause I eat lots of stir fry veggie and I never have any problem with it.

Hi Sinta.

Stir frying is cooking to me, but I know that stir fried is usually quicker and the veggies don't have as much cooking time. One of the others may know the answer to your question.

I really am almost on the NSD - just veggies left, so I hope the flares I am going through calm down down I'm off the milk. But I'll just have to wait and see, won't I? :)

Thanks for your reply,
Regards,
Elaine

Hi Elaine

When I went gluten free I immediately developed an itchy rash on my legs which was there for several months until I went starch free then it disappeared. Now, if ever I eat starch I get eczema under the eyes... supposedly a sign that the liver is overburdened.... but I never had that in my life before. One's body becomes more fine-tuned... a bit like cleaning a dirty mirror..you then see more clearly.

But I know what you mean... The pain in joints... I often feel it's things being stirred up... it's so hard to explain why exactly one feels that such a reaction is one time a result of starch consumption and another a general level of detox...the body will detox/heal itself as and when ... and not all at once either. One has to be patient and not overtax the body.
Also things can seem/be worse than before the longer you go without symptoms and depending on many environmental aspects...one's judgement is subjective!! Hormone levels too affect pain threshholds.... can be much lower pre-menstrually.

Cheers
Sue

Hi Sue,

I agree about hormone levels affect the pain threshold as well as pressure - I've been watching my self that it is much easier for me to control the pain while everything is under control .

Hey Sinta! Control..yeah...we can't control the agri and pharmaceuticals etc. Nor our body environments on many levels. Maybe, as in many eastern philosophies..the best results come from letting go!

Elaine,

this diet seems NOT a good idea for pregnant women.

Hi Elaine,

Some people react quickly to the diet some it takes a while. You may need patience on this. I have been on it for 4 1/2 months now and am still waiting for it to work well enough to go off meds. I believe it is helping but I am no where near to being painfree. I am still on meds as well so that may be the reason. The Las Vegas notes said it could take 3-6 months on the diet before getting a response. While some here it was immediate I think it may be the exception not the rule. Hang in there. I believe it is the way to go. Good luck and take care.

Thanks Arjan, I have seen that list before. I know that I will probably have to go back onto some carbohydrates once I'm pregnant, but I am also hoping that my AS will go into remission as it does for some women. I don't want to do anything that will harm the baby, but I have also got to find some common ground as I also don't want to hurt me any more than I have to too. I'll probably have a good chat to a dietician or someone like that when the time comes.
