Moms always feel it when their baby's get hurt. So maybe it's just me.... But I just gotta share this with someone. And you all know backs and pain better than anyone else I know....

My oldest son was injured on the job. He was changing a fuse in the ceiling 30 feet up.(why would anyone put a fuse box in the ceiling?) He was standing on a skid placed on a fork lift. The hydraulic line burst. He jumped free and aimed for a sand pile. He doesn't remember anything after jumping other than waking up on a stretcher. Fortunately, the fork lift had just been started, or the man sprayed with oil would have been badly burned. The whole thing was an unfortunate accident and not really preventable.

Initially, there was nothing wrong with him. Nothing broken, etc. But they put him on light duty, just in case. A couple days later, he collapsed on the job. His legs were numb so they sent him to the ER. Now he's bent over with muscle spasms in his back and hips. And the spasms are not responding to treatment. He is in terrible pain. He told me this morning, even his elbow was hurting.

Worker's Comp has called him 3 times already asking how much he needs to settle. He's only 18 years old, and there's the possibility that he'll never be ok again. It's hard to put a dollar figure on that. I'll be calling my attorney Monday morning to get some advice.

Thanks for listening.

Hugs,

Cindy

Sorry to hear about your son. I sure hope they can help him and this is not going to be a way of life for him. Talking to a lawyer sounds like a good idea. Don't let WCB talk him into anything until you know his prognosis. Take care Cindy and let us know how your son makes out.

Most injuries with workmans comp have a fixed cost settlement depending on the injury. You might check that out before you put money in a attorneys pocket.

Oh I do hope he is feeling better soon. You are right who puts a fuse box in the ceiling?
My hubby injured himself at work about two and a half weeks ago, he walked into a fourty foot container box......ummm still trying to work out how he didn't see it!! Anyway he has been having strong headaches since and no-one can work out why, just being told it is coincidence and that he has a type of flu.

You sound like your doing the right thing and I hope it all works out for him in the end.

Cindy,

I'm so sorry to hear this.
Workers Comp laws are different in every state. You will be able to find the laws for the state that he lives in on the Internet.

Insist on a neuropsych. exam. If he hit his head and blacked out, cognitive abilities can be altered, I would insist on WC paying for rehab. Do not settle on a price at this point.

As a case manager of individuals with head injuries, we deal with WC cases all of the time. We do the testing, PT/OT/ST, cognitive training, and return to work AFTER medical management.

Also insist on having a Physical Medicine and Rehab doc look at his case. Only after this doc releases him to work should he return.

BTW-I'm in the processing of interviewing for a Workers Comp case Manager position.
These folks manage the case from beginning to end. Do not sell him short.
