Wanting to know people from Canada and what meds work for them? Our meds are different then the U.S. and alot of them we can't get here. Right now I am on Trazidone 100mgs, oxycocet, and zoplicone. Still not enough pain relief........ Thanks

Hi Terry Lea

I am from BC. I am taking sulfasalazine and my current NSAID is bextra. Not a lot of pain relief for me either. My rhuemy will not give me anything stronger than T3's for pain and they don't help for my pain. What are those drugs you are on? Are they NSAIDs? I have not heard of any of them. If you find something that works let me know.

Hi,
No I can't take Nsad's allergic to all. Trazadone is an anti depressant, which always helps pain, the zopiclone is a sleeping pill. The oxycocet is a pian killer ( narctic?). I have been on imuran, which I was taken off of because of long term side affects, predisone, the same, metho, the same. Dr's are now checking to see if I have T.B. as a result of the steriods............. Ahhhhhh but life does trudge on!!!!

Hi there,
I'm also from BC. Tried sulfasalazine, and methotrexate - neither of which worked for me. Currently taking prednisone (been on it for a year, but in low dose most of the time), which unfortunately is the only med that works for me.
Before prednisone, I was on T3's and naproxen in mass quantities with little to no relief at times. My GP, who is very understanding, has prescribed morphine to deal with the worst flares, so I can get some pain reduction sleep.
Now I'm adding didrocal (sp?) to help the loss of calcium due to the prednisone.
Good luck in finding something that works for you....I'm still searching myself. Keep us posted!!
Megan

Hi TerryLea,
I'm afraid I can't help with things that are working, since nothing seems to be at the moment. Methotrexate did seem to help initially, but I still had a flare up while on it. When I switched to injectable, that helped for a while too, but I felt horrible all the time and ended up getting pneumonia and missing 6 weeks of work. Things that don't work for me but might be worth trying: Mobicox (meloxicam, know as Mobic in the US), sulfasalazine, Plaquinel (hydroxychloroquinine, an antimalarial). I've had ulcers from Ibuprofin, so most NSAIDs, especially Vioxx, are out for me. T3s sometimes take the edge off.
I'm assuming we can't get Enbrel here, since I haven't heard any Cdns talking about it. Too bad, as it sounds like it really works!

Happy to hear you finally got some pain relief Terry-Lea. Ten yrs. is way too long to go without pr. I wish you many more pain-free days and glad you have a dr. who is not afraid to give you what you need. No-one should have to go that long in pain. Take care.

Well, I just went on Tylenol Arthritis 3 times a day and Vioxx twice a day. We'll see what happens.

Hugs,

Kat

I would like to try Alleve but hear it is only available in the States. Good luck with your vioxx. Be sure to take it with food! Most important. Hope it works for you.
