For all the Aussies and Kiwis out there:

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

From Laurence Binyon's 'For The Fallen'

"LEST WE FORGET"

At dawn on this day 88 years ago, 25th April 1915, the A.N.Z.A.C. legend was born when Australian and New Zealand forces were placed onto a small beach at Gallipoli, Turkey. Today millions of Australians and New Zealanders remember the sacrifices these men and women, and all those that fought in the wars after, made for us, our countries and for our freedom. Join with us today in saying THANKS and take the time to reflect on recent events that once again have brought countries together in the hope of PEACE.

Amen for peace,

You are right we need to remember special dates so that just maybe no other man or woman had to go thru the same thing. That w can learn from the past.

I join you in remembering and pray for peace.

Thankyou Anon

~ Pastures Green ~

Pastures green, poppy fields,
graves for soldiers fallen.

A wooden cross marks a resting place,
a thousand miles from loved ones.

Rusted wire, silent guns,
trenches torn and broken.

A helmet rests on a rifle butt,
the tools of war unspoken.

Anzac Days, colours blaze,
their battle honours borne on.

Old men march and a bugle plays,
in memory of the fallen.

Here's some sad/depressing but interesting facts that may help you realise why this was such a big event in our country's past.....

In 1915, the population of Australia was 5,000,000. Of that, 300,000 men enlisted for service... 6% of the population. Of that 300,000 men, 60,000 died... that's 20% of the men that enlisted or 1.2% of our population...... A huge loss to a small country.....

Thanks for bringing this to our attention Mike. It moved me greatly. Anything to do with war does. If not for the courage of young men and women such as those lost at Gallipoli I would not be here because in the WW2 people just like them liberated my MOTHER AND FATHER and ALL my relatives in Holland. It was, sadly, another war since nothing was learned by the First Great War.My very own parents were nearly starved to death and they were only civilians. Young Canadian boys (most of them) came in and set them free. My Mother especially at 80 now, will never heal from the war. This is as you can probably tell Mike, very personal to me and something that I will forever be affected by and will continue to teach by telling my folks' story to anyone who will listen.
