Hello everyone. I guess I need to be counted also. I have been LSD since December when I was diagnosed with AS. I do not have insurance and have decided not to do the traditional meds. The diet is working well, the only flare I have had seems to be ascociated with extreme stress rather than diet. I am hopeing that LSD and working out will allow me to get off the NSAIDs and heal this leaky gut. For the first time in years I have no early morning stiffness and I am gratefull.

Dear Patty:

One problem with this poll is that several people who are regular readers either do not or cannot post, and there have been some success stories we will never hear about because those people have left kickas, according to our charter.

Certainly, Vance is still on the NSD and we should credit him with discovering Carol Sinclair's book; the very essence of our NSD site.

I have email discussions with about 6 regulars who refuse to post because of some of the disputes (admit that I was usually at the mushy center of these...), and several less enthusiastic but are having some limited success (and we are learning a lot in the process).

All the previous diet vs drug polls on the main site were disputed as 'placebo' level results, however, with the more tenacious and adroit group we have going now we should be taking more careful note of the success v failure. I count this at just under 80%, but this is a SWAGged number.

Best Regards,
John

Oh, John, you have such a scientific mind! (And I admire it!) But I wasn't trying to truly count all the people who do NSD and are in anyway associated with KA -- just noticing that there used to be what seemed like just a few of us, only few months back, and now the number is growing! (Ain't it great?)

You think we're showing 80% success? To what do attribute to the missing 20% (Ebringer says it's 100% effective, right)? My SWAGs on that: 1) People who also need to eliminate dairy (like me -- with dairy in my diet it seemed like the NSD didn't work), 2) maybe misdiagnosis (if you don't have a spondyloarthropathy, you wouldn't get better on NSD, would you?) . . . what other ideas? Oh, probably the obvious, not doing it right or not giving it enough time to work? (I haven't used the acronym SWAG since I left the military -- had forgotten it! Thanks for the memories!)

OK, going to post about the trip to Carlson and the results! (Amazing doctor/researcher!!! I'm now his groupie.) Just got home 15 minutes ago (had to stay overnight there).

Hugs,

Patty

Count me in as LSD, but the L stands for LAZY!! I do a very VERY sloppy LSD, I don't test anything with iodine, but I do try to avoid the things that are mentioned specifically on this board (potatoes, breads, pastas, cake-like things, cookies. etc.) and increasing salads, fruits, meats and veggies. And I am positive that the less of these starchy things I eat the better off I am.

In fact, writing this now, I know why I was in such an awful mood Saturday....I had a meal FULL of bready-fried things, which also included some pasta, the day before!!! Of course the days when I don't eat that stuff I feel really good!!

I tried the apple diet too which was great but I had to cut it short becuase I got hired at my new job in day 2!!!! When my next vacation comes up I will definitely try the apple diet again! I never felt more pain free as those 2 days, and the day before my colonoscopy. Fasting works for me, is also a lot more brainless than NSD

Hum, disputed by whom John? The drug takers perchance?? If 'yes', then no wonder there were disputes

I would be very wary of making success v's failure stats - unless one can guarantee that the alleged 'failures' had 100% compliance to the diet? Anything less would be about as ironic as Coca Cola's partnership with The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry surely?!!

Take care,

i am in at the nsd level. a spoonfull of corn syrup may slip by every once in a while but other than that, i am nsd. it is getting easier for me but damn it is expensive to do the nsd. i am blessed so far for being able to afford it. also, found out about a local volunteer medical group today that helps folks w/ no health insurance. since there are no insurance companies out there that i could find that would insure an as person, (total bs in my opinion), i think i qualify. damn good news to me. thanks patty and john for all of your help w/ starting me on the nsd.
